Re: Half Marathon Trainers week of Nov.18th

Congrats to the racers!

Full-length workweek here in Canada, and I have to do Saturday this week, too, just a half day, with my long run afterwards.
Slipped back a bit last week, total 44kms, 27.5 miles, should be back to normal this week. I am running 4 times per week, essentially no cross training recently.
Simon.

Re: Half Marathon Trainers week of Nov.18th

Great run Kim! congratulations on WHEREEVER you finished. I'm sorry I can't help you with the feet issue.

SimonR, I can relate to the 'no xtrain lately' Like, when am I going to find the time to xtrain? Running everyday, working, cooking for the kids, sleeping, ... I'd love to get out and hike, or ride my bike, or build up my upper body, it's frustrating but I do know that I love to run, and I'll keep doing it!

Joe, I picked up some Brooks 'Glycerin' shoes. More of a cushion in the shoe -vs- the Brooks Adrenaline GTS7 that I had. It seemed the Adrenaline only stood up to about 100 miles and then I'd have some significant knee pain. Yuk! A buck a mile is pretty steep for shoes. I'm hoping to get around 300 miles out of these Glycerin's, not to mention less knee problems.
and, thanks for putting me in the current thread!

I'll do my short recovery run (20 min) this afternoon after work.

Good luck everyone on your runs, or recovery today!

Kevin

Re: Half Marathon Trainers week of Nov.18th

Kim – great job on your half!!!!

Misswindy – and you on your 10K and great pic, thanks for sharing! And Brett Farve in a thong…sounds good to me! Thanks for the thought Joe!

Chuck – Glad you got to the drs! Keep us informed and whatever you do Chuck, don’t pull a Tuesday-thong day tomorrow…just on Thursday so you don’t freak the surgeon out.

Kevee – sounds like you and I were on the save wavelength last week – pretty much what I ran the last part of the week too, including 6.6 on Sunday…as I was saying earlier, that is half of a half…we are half way there!

Alright Macd – go Colts! They just squeaked yesterday by though and your husband may be right with Vinateri’s track record the last few weeks! A real Benedict Arnold!

Well, a short TM run in the morning and then maybe 6 miles on turkey day…got to take advantage of days off!

Jeep, thought we had a few things in common, like our running pace. However, now I find out that we couldn't be farther apart...Lions...who are they???

GO PACKERS!!!

NCSunshine, nice race and thanks for sharing. I would love to be able to do a 2:35 in a half even if it were completely flat. So I think that you did a great job and had a great time. As for the foot thing, I am for sure no expert and you have probably already tried my ideas...different shoes or better socks. I have a lot less problems when I wear winter type running socks that I do in the summer with the lighter weight socks. I was really surprised that I seem to have such a difference from something as simple as types of socks.

Chuck, good luck with the doctor. Please let us know how you are doing. Our thoughts are with you.

Peg, congratulations on the new job.

Today was a rest day for me. Just did a couple of hours of domestic aerobics (house cleaning) after work. Hoping to be able to squeeze in 20 miles this week between Thanksgiving feasts.

Re: Half Marathon Trainers week of Nov.18th

Hi everyone, ran day 2 of the c25k with a co-worker today and then ran 3 more miles. Thats all the time I had before I had to pick up DD from practice. It was a warm 67 degrees today but there is a cold front headed this way.

monnikhope your hip gets to feeling better.

chuckyou better get to the doc and get that checked out. you don't want to be down and out for thanksgiving

kathywinggreat job on the 10 mile climb. I would probably be really sore after that

joedid you get your 4 miles in.

kimgreat job on the 1/2 especially sticking it out with all those hills. to bad there wasn't any pics. That was a great finishing time.
I had trouble at the end of my 1/2 also with the bottom of my feet but my problem was it was so hot out and the soles of my feet felt like they were on fire. It was so weird, I had never had this happen. I don't know what caused it? sorry I couldn't help

macdenjoy your week off, I have one more day and then I'm off till Monday/ Yipee

simonbummer on the long work week, thats a good number of miles for the week. I plan to get back on track with my milage after thansgiving

keveeI'm with you, I couldn't give up running, I'm addicted

Re: Half Marathon Trainers week of Nov.18th

Hey everyone FYI - REI is having a great sale on running shoes so if you have a favorite pair you might be able to pick them up for around $50!!

Kim - great job on your race! Don't beat yourself up about having to walk...a couple walk breaks can help you finish stronger than if you tried to push through.

misswendy - here are my two words for the day... VINCE YOUNG!

macd - enjoy your week off! You can justify all the potatoes and pumpkin pie by running as much as possible ... right!?

SimonR - What is your long run this week? It will be something to look forward to while you're at work !http://www.coolrunning.com/forums/smile.gif|src=http://www.coolrunning.com/forums/smile.gif|border=0!

Kevin - yeah you should definitely be getting more than a 100 miles out of the shoes. I have recently started wearing Mizunos and I LOOOOOVE THEM.

Chuck - definitely no thong at the dr! But seriously...hope you can get some answers tomorrow.

alex - I second that....must take advantage any time off! But there seems to be this yard full of leaves beckoning me....it's always something...

Peg - Tell us about the job??? And congrats BTW!

So...anyone doing a Thanksgiving day race? I'll be taking DH and my sister downtown (detroit) to do the Turkey Trot (10k) but I'm just going to spectate (is that a word???) this year. Although, there is a 5k as well...hmmm....you never know I may decide at the last minute.

NOW...on to MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL!!

Re: Half Marathon Trainers week of Nov.18th

Good evening all. I hope everyone gets their runs in this week. Looks like cold rain the next few days so I will be in the gym. Ran 4 miles on the tm, rode the bike for a while and lifted weights. This will be the same for the next two days as the weather will be awful, 30's and rain and snow.

wbertha: the Thanksgiving game should be interesting. I can't wait. We will see how good the Packers are in the next few weeks.

monnik: did you set your appointment yet at the dr. for the hip?

Peg: great news on the job.

Sheila: nice workout! It must be nice this time of year to have warm weather.

misswendy: Brett Favre is fun to watch. Hopefully he will play another year.

Joe: How are you doing?

Take care and keep pushing.

Re: Half Marathon Trainers week of Nov.18th

I've written this post 3 times today, and each time it's disappeared into cyberspace!! Hopefully this time lucky!

Kim, sounds like you enjoyed your race, well done. I don't know about the feet, but I know that last Sunday when I did my long run, the balls of my feet were a bit sore from around the 10km mark... I put it down to a poor choice of socks, and will try something different next time.

I had a comfortable 7k this morning, but it was really hot and humid by the time I headed out. I've decided that there's really no limit to how far you can go, just need to keep putting one foot in front of the other. Had a follow up visit with the podiatrist re my orthotics, and all's good.

Happy running, all.

Re: Half Marathon Trainers week of Nov.18th

Morning Peeps! Did my 4 miles after work yesterday! Didn't get any computer time afterwards so haven't uploaded my run info. 3 more today. Temps are supposed to drop here tomorrow night! Just in time for Thanksgiving! However not looking forward to the big temp swing!

SimonR - Can you get that long run in on Saturday before work?

Kevin - Wow only 100 miles on a running shoe doesn't seem like much. Hope those new Glycerin's last at least the 300 miles!

Chuck - Good luck at the Dr's!

Alex - Brett Farve in a thong, you silly, you know that's not what I meant! LOL

Peg - Congrats on the new job!!!! Bet you slept like a baby after hearing the good news huh?

Wbertha - LOL, domestic aerobics!

Sheila - Yep cold front supposed to move through here tomorrow evening! It was 78F when I ran my 4 yesterday!

Jeep725 - I'm supposed to run 4 on Thanksgiving day morning, but not doing a race.

Runjr - I like running in the rain but cold rain, that's a different story!

Noob - Looks like you got lucky this time around! Good job on that 7k! Glad your feet are happy!

Joe

Re: Half Marathon Trainers week of Nov.18th

Great running everyone!

Kim - Congrats on the half - it sounds like you did great to me. I was having problems with the bottom of my feet on long hikes, so I started rubbing the Glide stuff on the bottom of my feet too (I had been using it to prevent blisters on my toes already) and that helped a lot. The Glide might help if it's just a surface pain.

Re: Half Marathon Trainers week of Nov.18th

Hi halfers!
Noob, good news that the orthotics are working for you. Shin splints are horrible.

Peg, congratulations on the job, don't be nervous the first day, it'll be fine.

Joe, I don't much like morning runs so I'll do it after work, before dinner.
Jeep I am trying to do 13 miles, 21kms. each Saturday, to get used to the race distance. I expect I will shorten this when the weather is cold or there is a lot of snow on the ground, but by April I should have some experience at the distance!
Simon.
