food rut

does this happen to anyone else? I usually enjoy cooking and preparing meals for my family...I'm fairly creative, have access to good produce and have ample time. But for the past few weeks I have no motivation or energy to cook. I still make dinner, but lunch and breakfast have become monotonous which is just even less inspiring. I just went shopping but really don't have any inclination to get any more complex than PB and J or yogurt. I'm not sick, just blah. I realize this is not a huge problem in the grand scheme of world issues, but has anyone else experienced this? Any suggestions? Thanks.

Re: food rut
I used to get into food ruts pretty often. Now that I've started cooking more complex meals with more fresh vegetables, the ruts have been occurring less often. Recently when I have been in them, I turn to sushi. I don't know why, but it's almost like sushi resets my food boredom.

Re: food rut
I get in this rut on a regular basis, even though I love everything food-related -- cooking, reading about it, organizing cabinets and fridge (freak?).

After a couple weeks of eating PB sammies or cereal, I'm in the mood to cook again. Fortunately, DH doesn't even care if we skip meals.

Re: food rut
I have got out of a lot of food ruts right here, reading carbo canteen! Some great recipes I have tried that have become new staples ( I wish there was some sort of search thing , but in particular lentil squash stew, and lentils and carmelized onions-thank you to whoever posted them!) and also if you check old threads about breakfast and lunch ideas....I have got lots of ideas there, a lot seem obvious but when you see them posted its like 'aha'! Ill try that! I will eat the SAME thing for breakfast/lunch for weeks at times and just mixing it up a bit helps, also more healthy as you are getting different nutrients, etc.
I love sushi but not when its cold!
at this time of year I like to do a crock pot dish to eat during the week...like pea soup, etc. There is a dried 16 bean mix by goya and the recipe on the bag is great and lots of room to adapt it...the best is these type of things actually taste better as leftovers, and you do not have to cook again.
I think you like to cook but just in a rut? if so, check out other threads for other simple great ideas....and even if not vegan/veg there are good ideas on those threads also....

Re: food rut
I get in food ruts, too, and I have a food blog!
Mostly it's because I'm usually the only one cooking in the house, so if I'm tired, it wears on me. Mine usually last only a day or two, though.
Is it just cooking you have no motivation or energy for? Seasonal affective disorder affects a lot of us, and it's hard to want a salad when it's below 0 out!
Just a thought.
