Re: Macon Area Running

Ekiden went alright...I enjoyed it..it was my first time running it..and I look forward to doing it again.

As for now...Chicago is only 5 days away and I'm already more nervious at this point than I've ever been for any race that I've ever run...and the weather isn't looking to friendly...however...we're still to far out I think for them to know for sure..but it looks like rain and 45/35 high/low.

Re: Macon Area Running

I had an interesting weekend race. My plans have been to schedule a race every other weekend or so to make me put in hard miles since all of my runs are done solo......hard to push sometimes. Saturday was the Boston, Ga. Mini-Marathon.

I left the house early for a long drive to Boston which had an eight oclock start time. About halfway down I realized my estimated travel time was going to be close. After going through Thomasville and missing a turn the chances of making the start time was slim.

My thoughts began to just hunt for a good spot in Thomasville or elsewhere for a fifteen miler or so but the more I considered the wasted trip I trudged on to Boston.

On the final few miles into Boston I risked death by bandaiding the nips and lubing up sensitive areas while moving at high speeds.

I arrived and parked about fifteen minutes or more late for the start time but held out a little hope the start was postponed. I grabbed my eighteen dollars and race application for the half mile run to the race start....this was my pre-race prep. The race had begun twenty three minutes earlier according to lady I threw my money at.

I won't bore with the splits but will say my first couple miles were way to fast....must of been thinking I could make a bunch of time up. It actually turned out to be fun after catching up with groups of runners. The course is an out and back so I was able to catch some who passed me going the other way.

My official time for the race was 2.05.20 and my watch time was 1.40.55 so overall I was pleased to have run hard....for me...so the weekend was a success. Going to Albany November eleventh fo a 15K.

Re: Macon Area Running

Steve....sounds like an interesting day in Boston....I've always wanted to go down and run that race..just because of the name of it.

770 - Thanks...I'll have to check it out!

I ran a 5k and 10k Xterra trail race just south of Athens this past sunday and they were a blast! Really rough and tough, but a change from the roads we usually run on. I'd suggest running a "REAL" trail race if you ever get a chance..but be ready for a challenge!

I ran the 5k in 19:15 and the 10k in 41:04.

Re: Macon Area Running

It is has been a while since I have written anything.  After running the Air Force Marathon in September I decided to take some time off.  That time off turned into more than I thought because......work has been crazy (preparing to go on a deployment in January) and my wife is still very much pregnant.  The longer I go without consistenly running the harder it is to come back.  I just can't string more than 2 days together with everything that is going on!!!!!!!!!  I need something to fire me up!  One thing is for sure......4 months in the desert will give me plenty of time to run!!!

By the way.....my wife is due to have the baby any day! I can't wait.

I am now a Dad!!!  Spencer Jack was born on Nov. 15 at 2:55 PM.  Wife and child are very much healthy.  I have started running again.  Hopefully 4 months in the Desert will allow me to get back into running form.

Re: Macon Area Running

Spencer,
Congratulations on that son. They grow up quick.

Josh,
I ran a trail marathon last year and did 22 miles on a trail this last Saturday and my times were pretty bad. You can't just run but must focus a good bit on the next step.

Scott,
Haven't seen you posting lately.

Re: Macon Area Running

Congrats Spencer!  Now you have an excuse to go out running to get away from the crying!  haha!  j/k!  But congrats!

Looks like I wont be at the Santa Stroll this year...I think I've won it the last 3 years....anyone running this NOT A PR race?

My next race is a 5k here in Peachtree City...past that..it looks like the Disney Half Marathon.

Re: Macon Area Running

Yeah, the reindeer run is definitely not a PR Race.  I had fun there, however.....the best part is that I received a 25 dollar gift certificate to Dicks for finishing first in my age group!!!!

Re: Macon Area Running

I can forgive the fact that the course is downhill out and uphill back, but in a town as pretty as Macon, it P155E5 me off that we have to run in the nasty smelly industrial part of town, when we have College St decked out with boughs of holly etc, etc.
That's why I love the Madison Christmas Rush so much, with the attractive, nice smelling course, hot cider and hot vegetable soup for the participants, decent awards (no tacky ribbons), 2 races, 5K & 8K, lots of door prizes.
Just MHO.

Re: Macon Area Running

I was looking on raceearth.com the other day and noticed that they have a Cherry Blossom Festival Marathon (& half) listed for March in Macon. But the Cherry Blossom site itself has no mention of this. I thought they just had a 5K. Does anyone know anything about this race? I am planning to train for a half in the spring and this would be very convenient.

Re: Macon Area Running

I know that in the past there has been a marathon at the cherry blossom festival.  I was going to run in it last year but I failed to sign up on time.  Whenever there is a full marathon there is usually a half marathon to go with it so I would guess that they do both.  They might have changed it this year though.....you just never know.  I have heard that it is a great race to run.

There is also a half marathon at the Museum of Aviation (Warner Robins) in January and I think Tybee Island (Savannah) has one in Febuary.
