Bellingham Inaugural...a confession....a marathon RR ..and a 37 minutes PR
It is time for a confession. Many of you may think that my primary focus to going to Bellingham this past weekend was to run the marathon. Well... that was the driving force of the trip, but who can think of a marathon when there were so many other things to enjoy such as meeting cyberspace boomer friends such as Opie, Erika, Peter, Gordon, Tet, Soundie and little Miss Lynden?

...there was also a double birthday party celebration for two gorgeous boomer goddesses to enjoy?
And...
then there was the slumber party and the hours of giggles, hoola hoping, belly dancing, drinking, joking, toenail painting, and jump roping fun to be had with the birthday girls (Jura
, you were sorely missed dear sistahhhhhh)
All that preceded, of course... by all the drinks provided by Tet and the other boomers (which made hydration a major issue the next day... !http://www.coolrunning.com/forums/smile.gif|src=http://www.coolrunning.com/forums/smile.gif|border=0!)
Now, please look at the ribbon Tet is wearing...that is the badge of honor we gave him as we also
celebrated his 30th years of marathon running

Well... with so much food, drinking, belly dancing and laughter it was mighty difficult to wake up the next day and go run a marathon, specially when I looked outside and saw the wind and the dark clouds... and knowing fully well the effect of wind with my asthma I knew I would be in trouble. I must admit...I could have easily stayed in bed and just drive back home that morning...but I needed a bib number and a race shirt to bring back home to my family so... off I went to the starting line to run the 26.2 miles.
I will not bore you all with the details of how the weather was or how romantic the race course was, since Tet and Soundie did such a good job at doing all that. But I will tell you that their description, even dough they were well done, they come short of the beauty of the Bellingham marathon course. Boomers, this is a must do marathon. The setting is just perfect.
The beauty of the scenery, the pre-race party, and the encouragement of my boomer friends (it helps to get a few hugs and kisses also !http://www.coolrunning.com/forums/smile.gif|src=http://www.coolrunning.com/forums/smile.gif|border=0!), running with Opie the first couple of miles, meeting up and running with Tet for a while until he
ditched me
, being cheered by Soundie and Peter (Erika's husband) made me grateful for the opportunity to run this marathon.The turn around point found at 2:39 and in the arms of my newly adopted dear father Tet. After he gave me a hug, he instructed me to run as fast as I could before I go back to the bay where the wind was howling and the rain was nasty. I did just that and for the next 8 miles (miles 14 to 22 ) I ran at a pace I did not even know I could run (between 8 to 9 minute miles). This faster pace helped me finish the marathon at 4:36:57, which is a
36 minutes PR
from my last marathon.So...all in all I must say...this was a marathon worth running... I came back to Omak with my bib number and my race shirt...and I am already ready to go back there again. Any taker?
