Fri 11/16 Breger starts Boomer Runs

Wow!  Kinda like old times sake.  Breger1 starts a morning Boomer thread ...

5 miles at 8:35 min/mile pace. A cold front came through and the weather was/is 57 and 46%. We hardly ever see 46% humidity. There's was no way to keep slow today.

Nice cool run for Breeger.  It's cool here too - 38F.

    7 miles in 1:07:29, 9:38 pace.

We're having a Thanksgiving potluck at work today, and I stayed up way too late last night making a complicated chocoloate cream pie. Just have to slather on the whipped cream this morning...

    Holly - I'm hoping everything went well yesterday.   You had a double whammy scheduled!!   {{{{hugs}}}}

Nice run Breger - seems like ol' times for sure having you start the thread!

Oh - PDP - I just love Chocolate Cream Pie - will you send me a slice??

Rest day for me. Went to Pilates last night - what started out as a trio (my sister, sister-in-law, and me) has now dwindled down to just me. Maybe I intimidated them. ha!
Saw that magic number on the scale this morning - woohoo!!

    TGIF!

I feel like such a slacker.  I've only run once this week (but it was sweet!).  Hopefully I can atone for my laziness tomorrow.  On the road for the drive south in just a few minutes.  Not sure if I'll be online before I get back Sunday evening or not.  Enjoy your day folks.

    Peace.

    Good Morning Boomers!

    Mary – thanks. !http://www.coolrunning.com/forums/smile.gif|src=http://www.coolrunning.com/forums/smile.gif|border=0!

We had a breakthrough of sorts in our household this morning. Dexter the wonder pup stood at the back door and looked at it expectantly until someone opened it to let him out. He’s 5.5 months old, and this is the first time he has actually shown any sign that he understands he should go outside to do his business. Then later, when I went out back to get him, I found him digging in my flowerbed, and after a moment he popped up with a bone in his mouth. I’ve given him about 6 chew-bones lately, and they all seem to disappear within a day. Now I know where they are. Having not had a dog since I was a child, I found it hilarious that the old stereotype of dogs burying bones is actually true.

No run for me today: x-training instead – upright rows, glute raises, bent rows, hammer curls, lunges L&R, leg lifts w/ankle weights, face-up and face-down, crunches and oblique v-ups.

    Happy Friday!

Re: Fri 11/16 Breger starts Boomer Runs

Glad we're off to a good start. But I had my first-ever encounter with an aggressive dog this morning. Dogs don't run loose in this area, and this was right on the college campus roads that I usually run on Fridays.

There were two of them, but just the small boxer kept charging at me. I don't have much experience with dogs, but think I was doing the right things to keep him off. Fortunately, a couple of guys in a maintenance truck had just driven by, and they backed up and offered me a ride up the road a ways. After I got out and started running again, a campus police car pulled up and asked me if I was OK, and which way the dogs went.

Anyway, since my usual route loops back through a pretty remote part of the campus, and the dogs had been headed in that general direction, I decided to cut my run short today at 2 miles (and look into getting some pepper spray this weekend).

Good running to everyone else today!

This week I have made it to 28 miles total so far. I think I am going to give getting back into the 40/40 thread a shot. Today's contribution to this week's effort was 5.22m@8:38.

Enjoy today everybody.  Good luck with food consumption over the weekend as next week is eat till you drop week!

Re: Fri 11/16 Breger starts Boomer Runs

Easybut a little too fast5 miles this morning.  Chilly and quite windy here, too, so I broke out the long-sleeved shirt and running pants for the first time this year.

I've developed a Thanksgiving week training plan by reading Daniels who writes, "Runners should take a few weeks off occasionally as scheduled breaks from training.[http://...|http://...] It's true that some runners pick up new habitssuch as overeatingduring a break from training.  However, these habits can sometimes be productive.  Overeating, for example can actually enable some runners to build up depleted iron stores that will serve them well when strenuous training is resumed."

So next week is iron store build-up training.  That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Woohoo for Dexter's breakthrough, I see you never got him to use the potty after all   !http://www.coolrunning.com/forums/wink.gif|src=http://www.coolrunning.com/forums/wink.gif|border=0!

Posting yesterday's 7 miles as I forgot to do it last night. It consisted of 35 mins Stairmill and 20 on the Stationary Bike while watching Cash Cab. I love that show. Then up to the weight room for a relatively light workout according to my schedule of 50 min weights and abs.

Going to try to run or do something after work then I have to pack, vacuum, do laundry and get a pile of clothes together to donate to MrPat's BOMF guys. Off to Delaware for a week tomorrow.

ETA I believe I had some of that Chocolate Cream Pie of PDR's before it disappeared and it was GOOD!

dg, yes I'll post my plan, over in the weekly.  Hope your PT goes well.

I'm off work today so guess I'll try the water running. And take a nap-we stayed up way too late last night working on Little Opie's science fair project. Be back later.

eta-Tramps, is turkey high in iron? I wish I had taken that part of Daniels more seriously. A few weeks seems like a long time. In fact right now a few days seems like a long time. But I'm thinking of taking a few weeks off in late January after Carlsbad.

7.3 miles this morning in 1:05. Only 28 degrees but no wind - it took a while to get the blood flowing. They're predicting snow next week. I'm not mentally ready for that yet. Rochrunner, I had an encounter with a stray dog last week. It scared the %!#* out of me. What's the right thing to do? Holly, hope all your tests went well. Mary - I wish I could find that "magic number" on the scale. As I get older, I seem to be going in the wrong direction! Good Friday, everyone.

Daniels had an answer to everything. Bonne Action de Grâce, chèr Tramps.
