Hill training

Hi I am planning on running in the Austin Marathon in February. The problem is that the race is very hilly and I live in very flat place. How can I get some good hill training in on the treadmill to prepare for the race? I ran last year and the hills were very hard on me.

Thanks,

Angie

Re: Hill training
Run stairs at a local high school stadium or in a building.

Most machines have a hill setting. Try that but stairs are really challenging and would work your quads list hills.

If you are well trained, running uphill won't pose too much of an issue. The problem can be the pounding your legs take on the downhills.

In addition to running stairs, multi-level parking garages work pretty well. The trick is finding one that is not in heavy use (office building during the weekend, mall after hours, etc.)
