Wicking Clothes for Women ... Stuff that Actually Fits

I've posted before that I buy clothes on line a lot and will buy XL, and it fits fine.  But when it comes to running clothes, most of the time it doesn't.  I have to look for XXL or 1x, which are hard to find.

Well, I just found out that Land's End carries some nice stuff for very reasonable prices:

I'm going to look at their shorts especially. I can't stand most running shorts!

If you have any ideas on good tech clothing for women that fits, please post!

Thanks for the suggestions! I'm running in sweats and a t-shirt right now and it's okay for the time being, but I would like to get some tech stuff very soon.

Zevida;

Throw away anything you are running in that is cotton!!!!!
Get some tech stuff.  Costco often sells the stuff.  Also, since it's been around for awhile, I often find stuff at those discount clothing stores (Ross, Marshell's) etc. etc.  You fill find it so much better to move in.  It's warmer in the cold and cooler in the heat.  Totally worth it.  Sweatpants just really weigh you down!!!

champion sells some larger sizes, but i don't know how good they are.  i wear their bras, however, i am having serious chaffing problems on my shoulders.  any recommendations for different bras would be appreciated.

Francesca, I have had that too (I'm a 36D, but when I started running I was at least a 38DD if not larger) and the main thing that helps is applying Bodyglide at the chafing points. I put it on my skin and on the bra itself. It's trial and error, but I find that works better than anything else.

Also, check to make sure your bras are fitted properly. Sometimes if they're too small they can chafe. Hope that helps!

enell, moving comfort, and champion all make athletic bras for massive hooters.  you should be able to find something which will work for you.

There are these underwear that look like bike shorts called Smarty Pants. They're comfy and wicking and lightweigt. I have several pairs.

Can I get in on this group too?  I'm not a runner...I am a walker but I am a big girl.  I'm currently walking a 14 minute mile and I'm logging 100+ miles a month.  It that doesn't make me an athlete in someone elses eye I don't care...I am one.  I will grow up to be a runner but you have to start somewhere.

Like the rest of you I am having a terrible time finding decent running shorts and clothing for us real sized girls.  I like a 4 to 5 inch inseam.  I want a loose fitting short not those darned compression shorts.  Champion has some great mesh shorts but they have been on back order for the entire summer.  JMS (just my size) carries the same Champion shorts but they too do not have them in stock.  Right now I have taken all my sweats and cut them into shorts.  You are right when you say cotton doesn't work but it is about my only choice.  I see that Adida has 2xl but I'm not sure if they will really fit.  Guess I should just order the darned things and find out.

Why do larger size exercise clothes have to cost so darned much?

Thank you Activewoman!  I have had an "underwear question" for a couple of weeks now, but unsure about asking!  This group is WONDERFUL!

Re: Wicking Clothes for Women ... Stuff that Actually Fits

Does anyone have any pants/shorts that don't ride up in the middle? I HATE my thighs rubbing together when I'm running with this wad of shorts in there (uncomfortable plus just unattractive).

Right now I run in long pants or capris, but in the summer that's just too darn hot.

Re: Wicking Clothes for Women ... Stuff that Actually Fits

Hi there,

For shorts I like Champion's Rugby shorts.  I had to hem them to get them to the 5" inseam I like.  By rolling the hem up it stayed heavier and doesn't ride up.  I bought Mens XXL at Sports Authority on sale at the end of the summer for $9 a pair or so.  They have a nice big wide elastic waist band and two nice deep pockets.  They don't ride up in the center at all.

Good luck
