San Francisco Half Marathon Race Report

Sunday was my half marathon (Kaiser Permanente San Francisco Half Marathon). This was my second half and I felt like I was better trained this time around due to training all the way up to a 12 mile long run and I have lost 20 pounds since the last one  !http://www.coolrunning.com/forums/smile.gif|src=http://www.coolrunning.com/forums/smile.gif|border=0!. Sunday morning I got up at 5:15ish, got ready to go and ate a small breakfast. I left my house in plenty of time (or so I thought) and made it into San Francisco over an hour early. The only problem was that there was very little parking and I drove around forever trying to find a spot. I finally found a spot on a residential street a couple miles away, but by then it was almost 7:30. I was paranoid that I was going to miss the last shuttle to the start so I ended up running all the way to the shuttles. I just made the last shuttle! Other than the parking woes, I loved this race. The weather was beautiful (cool and sunny) and the route was really pretty (7 miles in Golden Gate Park and the last 6ish were along the Great Highway by Ocean Beach). There wasnt a single hill and I actually felt like there was some slight downhills  !http://www.coolrunning.com/forums/smile.gif|src=http://www.coolrunning.com/forums/smile.gif|border=0!. I kept up a good pace, for me, and ended up finishing in 2:30:00 (that was according to my Garmin...my official time was 2:35:02 due to congestion before the start line), which is better than my 12 min/mile training pace and much better than my 1st half marathon time. I ended up only walking the water stops. After the race I had a little scare when I though that I had forgotten what street I parked on, but I finally found my car after a nice long walk. I then had to call a friend for directions because the roads I came in on were blocked by the race and I forgot my San Francisco map. I went directly home for a little napSunday was my half marathon.

I went directly home for a little nap and then off to my brothers house for dinner with the family.
