Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Dec 30th

Happy New Year's Eve to ALL!  May 2008 be a fantastic year for each of you and your families!!

Ran in my old shoes today with running partner - 3.5M - felt fine.  May exchange new shoes for a newer pair of the old shoes!  Uggh - what a pain...

CARA - thanks for posting message to MONNIK - let us know if you hear anything from her.

KEVIN - congrats on the double digits - that is awesome - I'll be happy to get there one day soon!

RUNJR - great job on the run!

Gotta go now...Laurel

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Dec 30th

Hey everyone!!   Cara stopped by my blog to tell me to come back, so here I am.  She is just the motivation I needed to get my rear end moving again!

I had a crazy December and will admit that I only ran a handful of times.  The good news about that is that my hip seems to be entirelly healed.  So... I am starting my training program again.

I'll have to read through the post to get to know everyone again.

Happy New Year (almost!)!!!!

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Dec 30th

You guys are awesome for thinking about me.  As I said, December was crazy.  Work was awful - busier than it's ever been.  Then we had all of the stuff going on at home.  My brother got married in San Francisco on December 15th, so we flew the family out there.  Then we hosted Christmas at our place, in addition to trucking all over the state of Iowa to visit family.  I'm glad it's over.

My running suffered greatly over the past few weeks, but I did get out this week and found that my hip pain is completely gone.  So cross your fingers that it's gone for good.  I was also fairly amazed that I could still run for 30 minutes without stopping.  I was kind of worried that  i'd have to do a modified C25K to get back into things, but I guess I'm not THAT bad yet.

Hi Peg!  I enjoyed the Patriots game too.  I honestly didn't konw who I wanted to win, though.  Being the Packers fan that I am, I thought it might be good to see the Giants pull off a win.  But I've never seen a team as good as the Pats are this year, so they definitely deserved the record season!

Chuck, seems like you're busy!  Three races, that's awesome!

Mara40thon, is the birthday you have coming up the one in your screenname?  IF so, do you have big plans??

JP, the relays sound really cool!  I'd have to be with a really supportive team, though.  I'd be afraid they'd all be irritated by my slowness.

Laurel, sorry to hear about the blisters.  I used to get those so bad before I switched to the non-cotton socks that i got at the running store.  Oh, and I also got my shoes in a bigger size, so now the blisters aren't bad.  Hope yours heal soon!

Hi Spicegeek!  Your goals for 2008 are awesome!

Runjr, it was nice to see Green Bay play well yesterday, even though we only got to see the starters for a few minutes, it seemed.  Last week, we watched that abysmal Bears game in my dad's tiny, packed living room with a few of my Bears fan brothers.  I thought my DH was going to explode, but it must have been Christmas Cheer that held him back.

Joe - sorry about your Cowboys!  (Not really.)

Kevin, I think your goals are great - they sound kind of like mine, but I'm rehabbing it so I'm not back up to an hour yet.  Keep up the good work!

Sheila, those are my goals too!  Except that now I need to lose at least 15 pounds.  Stupid holiday food and my lack of willpower.

Cara, sorry to hear about the cold.  I just got over one that was pretty short lived, but still annoying. Happy New Year to you too!

Well, my goals for 2008 are formally this:

1.  to lose 15 pounds

2.  to increase mileage to 25 miles per week

3.  to crosstrain, focusing on arms and abs (my weak spots)

4.  to post on this awesome thread more often

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Dec 30th

If I can sneak out of work early I'm going to get in an easy 3 or 4 miles. I'm going for a long run of 6 next weekend.

What do yall do on weeks that you know your training schedule is going to be screwed up, which parts are the most important? Long runs? Tempo runs? in other words what do you cut out if something has to go that week?

My goals for th year.

  1. Complete the Music City 1/2 marathon

  2. Lose another 30 lbs

  3. Complete the local Superman 4 mile run here in Metropolis, IL in under 36 minutes (ran the rute at 42 minutes Sat and the race is in June, 6 months to get off 6 minutes)

  4. Start training for the Marathon at disney World (Next January)

Do any of you use the iPod with Nike plus? I bought the wife that setup for Christmas, thinking you know I may just borrow it every now and then wink wink, no I really did get it for her, cough cough. At any rate have any of you bought the programs they have for download for endurance speed building, long runs etc. Any other recommendations for iPods / MP3 players and running?

Go ILLINI - Hope we don't get poounded too badly tomorrow!

Good morning all, running later today for my last run of 2007.

kevee, congrats on the double digits!!!!  I'm not overly fast either.  Did you use anything for energy during the run like gu or shot blox?

sheila, good goals for 2008.

Cara, hope you are feeling better, being sick and running don't mix well.

Joe, good luck on your last run in 2007.

Laurel, if you are not happy I would return the shoes.  Good luck finding that magical pair.

monnik, welcome back, it is great to have you posting again.  I have another Packer pal!!

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Dec 30th

Monnik, it all depends on your team.  Our selection was not based on speed and we had one slow runner, but no one cared as long as she gave it her best, and she did.  As I said, the issue is not speed but avoiding a team with some serious and some not serious runners.  For the former, there's a real sense of not wanting to let the others down.  We all wanted, at various times, to just stop by the side of the road and sit down.  Although I stopped, the idea of not finishing never entered my head.

Joe- I use IE-7 as my web browser. I have not had any trouble with past episodes of Steverunner. Although, the older ones only went back to #43.

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Dec 30th

ok- so that went thru - very confused - lately when i try to post it takes me back to the log in page even if i'm logged in!!

first - HAPPY NEW YEAR'S EVE everyone - i wish you all a happy healthy 2008!!

second - does the garmin have to stay in the charger all the time even when off? i tried to run with it yesterday and battery was too low to power on - only used it for that one 10 mile run.

i've been in a horrible on one off one schedule at work so my days and nights are totally messed up - i have put in a few 3-3.5 mile runs since that 10mile run and today hit the gym after work for some cross-training on the arc trainor - love that machine!! yesterday took a bad spill on a stupid christmas tree on the sidewalk - thought i cleared around it, but my foot got caught on a small branch sticking out and down i went - fortunately my padded hip/thigh took the brunt of it and not my knees, but my left elbow was quite sore at work last night and still achy today!!

tonight - heading out to a local friend's house then tomorrow running that Hangover Classic in Salisbury Beach to start my 2008 running - didn't keep track of miles this year cuz i was sidelined for most of the summer with a tibial stress reaction - not quite a fracture but you could have fooled me!!

stay safe!!

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Dec 30th

Thanks Joe.  My view, btw, is that what matters is not how fast you are but how committed you are.

Separately, is WBertha one of your lost souls?   (As you can see, I posted a link back here.)
