Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Dec 30th

hi all, office day today and I'm taking a break from all the emails from being gone 10 days from work.  It is pretty cold outside, I will probably be inside today at the gym.

misswendy - sorry about your HM.  I'm really not getting faster but just trying to keep up with this group.  All the support just seems to push me.  BTW I love the Mizuno's after two runs.  I may just order a second pair as they are so inexpensive right now.

laurel - fantastic goals.  I love #4, it puts things in perspective.  I agree, the group should start to consider a few races.

kevee - great news on DD#3 wanting to run.  Today is the best day for the gym.  If she runs outside in this cold weather it may be discouraging.  My HM will now be over Memorial Day in Madison.  DD and DW are going to enter with me.  I'm still considering the HM in Oshkosh which is in April.  That is not too far from where you live.   I will keep you posted.

Joe - Enjoy you rest day.  I would love 29 degrees.  Who are you rooting for tonight?

take care all!

I forgot I now have two (2) stars!!!!!   I'm still almost in last place with the stars.

Chuck I will shut the door after today, you need to enjoy the cold air once and a while.

macd - I admire you for being able to run 1.5 on the TM.   I may try the TM tonight.

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Dec 30th

Hey everyone!

It was -2 degrees (F) out this morning when I left for work.  They were saying with the windchill it felt like -20.  Yikes!  Thank God for my treadmill!  I'm doing an easy 3 tonight and then tomorrow will do an easy 2.5 outside at lunch (it's supposed to be in the 30s by tomorrow).  Then I'm going to try to work towards a "long" run of 4 on Saturday.  Slowly moving those miles back up.  So far so good, no hip pain.  I've been doing a lot of walking too.

Happy 2008 everyone!!

I had to get gas this morning too and was freezing my tushie off!  You're not supposed to get back int he car while it's filling, but screw that 'rule'!!

Seriously, it's frigid and almost scary.  Brrrr.  But, it's supposed to get warm tomorrow.  30 degrees will feel balmy!

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Dec 30th

-Monnik that's crazy cold. It was about 12 °F here this morning - reminds of my college days in Champaign, windiest coldest place on earth, or so it seemed

- Got in 1.5 at the gym today at lunch

- Yesterday was an awful day for my beloved Fighting Illini, though I knew it was coming. I kept telling people that if we stayed within 14 pts it would be a great game by us, geesh, we got whacked by 32 pts and it could have been worse.  I had planned on hitting the treadmill after the game for 3 new years day miles but I was so mad I just went to bed after the game.

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Dec 30th

Happy New Year Half Marathon trainers,

First check-in of the new year,

My long run is on Tuesday so I ran 11 miles in 112 minutes on Jan 1. - good start for the new year.  Two more weeks of long runs, then a recovery week followed by a easy week before my  first half marathon on Jan 27 half in Austin TX. My training plan has 11 miles as the longest run - so should be able to add a few more miles to complete the half.

Training goals for 2008 include training injury free, increasing my mileage by running year round, running a new route that is a bit longer with some rolling hill to work on endurance and to have fun doing it.  2007 ended with 569 miles in just over 94 hrs at a 9:59 avg pace, which was an improvement over 2006. Hope to continue the improvement trend into 2008.

Not sure about shout outs as there are so many people but:

Hey Deez, sorry about your fall and hope you are getting better, but more sorry about your on one-off one schedule. You must be going crazy trying to figure out what day it is. Hope your over that by now and on a more regular schedule.

I also wondered why a half marathon thread was in the newbie section, but since this is my 1st half marathon, I guess I am a newb, duh. And since I am now rounding the bend on training heading to my race day, lets share some helpful do/don'ts in regards to race day and final preparations.

Thanks again and good runs for all, stay warm and rest well,

GG

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Dec 30th

Well - got through my first day back at work and topped it off with a 4.2m run - my first since last wed. Cold is improving, but more sniffly now. Great to be out again now though as it was starting to get easy to make excuses not to run

Runjr - great 11.1 run 9.19 pace... and -3F??? I struggle with -3C

Glueman - isn't it a great feeling when you stop runnning knowing you could have gone further easily

Joe - thanks for the podcast tip! Got it sorted eventually after an entire evening playing with Itunes and ignoring DH. Just listened to the Philadelphia marathon - I really felt for the guys when he missed his target 4 hour time by a little over a minute! I also noticed quite a few people out running - I guess it's those new year resolutions. I heard on the radio that most people give up by the end of January

Spicegeek - congrats on your pain free running! I really admire you for sticking with it all this time

Chuck - great run with a hangover - I think I had a good run once after a heavy night on the wine too...

Misswendy - sorry to hear about your half - and after all that effort too! I didn't find a full year total on the active log, but you can run a report for Jan - Dec by month, guess how many miles (coz it only shows 5 mile markers) each month, then add them up? That's what I did - not ideal! I'm on facebook too, so look me up when you're there!

Laurel - I had a lovely time with family over new year - it was nice to have a houseful. Great goals by the way - I particularly like 'Persistance and consistancy' I'm sure we can all help with this one

Kevin - How did your DD#3 get on with running? Your goal to say 'No' was one of mine for December but I failed miserably

Macd - good for you for getting a morning run in, even if only short!

Monnik - I think i'd have a TM if the temps got that bad here! We are predicted snow tonight though so that'll be exciting. Good for you for sticking with it and working back up to your goals!

GG - Congrats on 11 miles - I think you'll storm those last couple of miles on race day

Deez4boys - Excellant time on that 10K - any pictures?

Well - that's all for me! I love the idea of racing with you guys, but could be a bit tricky with the distance? Anyone fancy a UK race sometime? Or we could all go and visit Noob!?!

Happy Running,

Cara

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of Dec 30th

Monnik- the age in my screen name is the one by which I wish to have run my first marathon by. I am a week from 39, so it is coming up quickly.  I am running my 1st half marathon on the 12th at Disney, so I will start to look for a late 2008 marathon after I successfully finish the 1/2.

Miss Wendy-thanks for the wishes for the Gator game, but they didn't pan out.

I wanted to get in some miles yesterday morning but had to get ready early in order to temporarily go off my training in order to tailgate before the Capital One Bowl in Orlando. I successfully detrained "if that is a word" with a grilled hot dog and hamburger and a few brewed beverages. It was topped off by a needed 4th quarter Foster's oil can to cope with my Gators' impending loss. At least the company and weather were pleasant.

After all of my ******** "see if that word passes the censors" about the 80 degrees and humid conditions here in sunny Lakeland, winter finally arrived last night. I got in 5 miles in 44 degrees and windy. First time since January that I had to run in sweatshirt and windpants. Took a hilly route, but had a good run, and was able to imagine snow and ice on the side of the road.

Since some of you clearly sent some of your weather my direction, I will attempt to send some of my usual weather the opposite direction.

With the Gator season over, I will simply have to continue to represent the Southeastern Conference in the National title game "Geaux Tigers" the only time you will hear me say that, and cheer on my Tampa Bay Bucs in the playoffs this coming weekend.

Good running everyone.
