Re: 1/2 marathon trainers Jan 13th

Thanks Chuck.  I am not going to stop running at all.  Just was curious about when to get back out there, how long to heal, etc.

On running with a group - it is nice but I like to have my time as well.  I prefer running along, except a race.  During my weekly runs, I like to put my headphones in and just go and have me a little therapy session and release it all.  Races - I like to have someone there to help push each other through.  I do not wear headphones during a reace because I want to hear each and every little thing and soak in the moment.  If you know what I mean.

Re: 1/2 marathon trainers Jan 13th

good evening all, tonight I'm doing something different, going to the gym.  I need to take it easy on the hip for a while so some cross training tonight.

marilyn - that is a great story on looking for Joe.

Peg - I agree with chuck, take it easy for a while and get the injury taken care of.  I would then look for another race as you are doing.  You look like you had fun!

joe - how are you doing?

chuck - I think I might like the running group.  How often do they run?  As long as it is not every night it would change things up.

misswendy - did you get your run in?

take care all.

Joe - where are you today?

I am going to just take it easy and play it day by day until I feel like I can get back out there.  Thanks for the feedback.

Re: 1/2 marathon trainers Jan 13th

I would judge when your serious soreness subsides. It also depends on your longest long run before you ran your half. Fortunately, I wasn't terribly sore, so I went out and enjoyed our unseasonably 50 degree temps today and got in 5 miles. After seeing how my training paid off, I don't want to get complacent and lose the training. I think I have already chosen another half in Orlando in November and am almost certain that I want to go all the way and run the Disney Marathon next year.  For all you northern people, think about it in the next few months and register for the half or full before it fills up. I cannot rave enough. I cannot guarantee more temps in the 60's this far out, but it will give you a weekend away from the cold. I am not just saying this so you will come down and spend some quality money in my fine state.

Thanks to all who have provided good comments and encouragement in the short time I have been writing in. Let's see how many of us can advance to the full marathon chat while still maintaining the good vibes here.

Re: 1/2 marathon trainers Jan 13th

Hello everyone!

I got my 30 min run in tonight, just a shade under 3 miles, about 10:20/mile.  I did it on the track at the gym after DD#3 and me did W3D3 of C25K.  She's a little nervous about Week 4 next week but I told her she could probably do it. My run felt really good.  I'll wake up early and do a 40 min run outside tomorrow.

Peg, I admire you for finishing your half, and having such a good time.  If you're still injured even a little I think it would be good to take a few days off and rest it.

Runjr, I wish I had the time for xtraining right now.  I'm just too busy.  Good for you!

Marilyn, great job losing all that weight.  I'm amazed just taking 3 days off I gained 3 lbs. :_|

Well good night everyone.  Gotta to get some sleep.

Kevin

Re: 1/2 marathon trainers Jan 13th

Tomorrow is a running rest day - must rest the knee anyhow - UGGH!!!!!!!!!!!!

Will cross-train with the pilates work out & strength training - the variety is pretty cool...

JOE - Where are ya?  We miss you...

PEG - No dah-ling, not planning the Seabrook HM - am signed up for Big D HM in Dallas in April!  Wanna run too?

MISSWENDY - Thx for the encouragement - not supermom today - just super-pooped!  Must remember to pick up super cape from dry cleaners!  LOL!

KEVIN - Sorry to hear you've been sick - hope you're all better soon!

RUNJR - Are you really resting?  Hope so!  Gotta take care of yourself, ya know!  How was the cross-training?

MARILYN - You go, girl!  Hope the remainder of your training goes well.  Sounds like you've taught your DDs well - not to meet "strangers" on the internet!  right?  So, just how strange is JOE?!?

CHUCK - Hope you enjoy the running group - keep us posted!

Chat with you guys again soon!  Gotta go to bed (after cleaning kitchen, making lunches, yada, yada, yada...) --Laurel

Re: 1/2 marathon trainers Jan 13th

hi all, I went to the gym. It was tough but I ran on the treadmill for 40 minutes, rode the bike for a while and lifted weights.   The hip still feels a little weird.  It wasn't as tough of a pounding on the TM.  I get so bored on the TM that I start running faster to get it done.  I should learn to like it.   I should have rode the bike and skipped the TM, but the gym was so packed that no bikes were available.

mara40thon - I am definitely going to look for an HM in warmer temps, maybe sooner than later.

kevee - good luck in the AM.  How do you like the gym?  It is going to get bitter cold later this week.  Saturday high of 3 degrees.  That will be a gym day.

laurel - enjoy your rest.  I think I would enjoy variety if I could find something more unique than the bike or TM.  Keep resting the knee.  The knee is still not good?   Hopefully the foam roller helps?

take care all.

Re: 1/2 marathon trainers Jan 13th

Hey Peeps, I'm here!  Sorry for the MIA! Took the day off yesterday, been offline too.  I'm back at work and my quads are still sore from Sunday!  I always take 1 day off after the half.  I may hit the gym this afternoon.

Well no time to catch up... however, Peg, I don't think I'll be doing the Seabrook Half.  I'm thinking part of my "problem" was racing the 13.1 distance 3 times within 4 months.  My times got progressively worse!

I usually do the Conoco Rodeo Run in Feb and the Bayou City Classic in March (both 10k's) but it looks like they will be just 1 week apart so I may skip the Rodeo Run this year...  Peg, Laurel, Marilyn, any of you interested in running a 10K??  Link for Bayou City Classic

Laurel this one is the one with the St Arnold's Beer!

Re: 1/2 marathon trainers Jan 13th

Good morning everyone!

Well I got up at 4:30am for my 40 min run and had such a headache I took an Advil and went back to bed.  Now I have to try and do my run after dinner tonight.  Should be interesting...

Laurel,  I am better now, although this crumby stress headache, along with a little sinus congestion still keep ‘hanging on'.  Rest that knee.

Runjr,  I have actually come to tolerate running on the track at the gym.  It beats the heck out of the treadmill.  At least I see the scenery going by, even if it is redundant.  14 times around the track equals 1 mile.  So last night's run---41-1/2 times around.   Maybe the headache this morning was dizziness.  LOL!  I'll probably still be running outside this weekend.  I can handle the cold OK.  Supposed to do 9 miles on Sunday with the last mile a little faster.  Definitely will be done before the Packers play!

Joe,  I hope you had a good rest.  Take care getting back to running.

Well time to go to work!

Good luck everyone with your runs today!

Kevin

Re: 1/2 marathon trainers Jan 13th

joe, good to see you back! 3 HMs in 4 months sounds like a bit much to me. The 10k's sound like a better plan... maybe another half in late spring or the summer? You don't want to burn out

marilyn, funny about your daughters' comments! It sounds like they are learning well!

runjr, sorry to hear the hip is still bothering you... try a little rest??

Peg, hope your recovery is going well. Kevee, sorry to hear you're not feeling better.

I got 2.7 in on the TM this morning, since I quit at 1 mile yesterday. Now that it is back to seasonable weather here (~25F), I can't think about going outside--I'm freezing inside. That 66F last week must have whacked out my thermostat. Hard to fathom how the Packers and Giants will play in 3 degrees this weekend!

Re: 1/2 marathon trainers Jan 13th

Hey gang!  Looking at my race results from the website (haven't even loaded my Garmin info!), my pace slowed by 9% from the 10K point to the 8.8 mile mark!  And by 20% from the 8.8 mile mark to the 13.1 mile finish!!

Kevin - Thanks, yes I need to start slowly again.  Hope you get your run in after dinner.  BTW, how long after dinner?  I can't seem to run unless a couple of hours pass by!  Then I'm too tired!  Maybe I'm eating too much!?  LOL

Macd - Nice TM run this morning!  I'm sure I'll do that BCC 10K in March.  As for another half I don't think there's another around here after that one on March that Peg posted about.  It starts to get too hot after that.  So my next probably won't be until November.  I may even skip that PWWHMC, sorry SteveRunner!  lol

Re: 1/2 marathon trainers Jan 13th

hi all just checking in over lunch.  Our thread has been quite slow lately.  I hope everyone is doing well.

joe  - I gotta agree with your thought process.  Too many HM's at almost once a month is too much?  good luck with the gym.  I agree I need two hours or I'm too full and don't run very well.  Sorry about your Cowboys.

kevee - good ;luck tonight, I'm shooting for 6-7 miles outside.  We gotta get the running in as I won't run outside with below zero wind chills.

macd - yes the temps are cold in Wisconsin, running around 5-10 degrees is about as low as I will go and after that heat wave we had a week ago, it feels colder.  Good run on the TM.

good luck all.

Re: 1/2 marathon trainers Jan 13th

Joe - yes, I'm planning to do the Bayou City Classic, but I haven't signed up for it yet.  I'm also planning to do the Rodeo Run, but I will just do the 5K for that one.  I'm running it with a friend who is in Week 6 of C25K and wants to run a 5K shortly after completing the C25K program.

Peg - I've also been thinking about what to do after the HM.  I know I don't want to take on the Marathon right now. I just don't have time for the training at this point in my life.  But I would like to another HM after I get this one under my belt.  I'm thinking I will working on improving my time at the 5K distance and at the 10K distance and then I'll look at another HM in the fall.

I'll write more later as I have to get back to work right now.

Marilyn
