Hamstring Pain

I started running in the beginning of November doing the C25K program. As of WK8 I started getting mild hamstring pain. As of now it is still going on. If I run about 3 miles the rest of the day my hamstrings are pretty sore. The next day the pain subsides as the lactic acid amount reduces. What am I doing wrong to cause this? I do stretch daily walk 5 min before and after my runs.

Re: Hamstring Pain

Hi Mike,

Here are a couple of things may help you out, first off start by finding a good dynamic stretching routine for your ham strings, to focus on before you run, here is a link to a great routine. http://orgs.jmu.edu/strength/JMU_Summer_2000_WebPage/JMU_Summer_2000_Sections/9_summer_dynamic_flexibilty.htm

Also hydration is going to be key to help flush the lactic acid out of your muscles, also one of the best things to help move out the lactic acid is vitamin c , the emergen C packs are a great way to get 1,000mg. Also if you have a gym that you go to, see if they have foam rollers and work on rolling you hams out on that, if you don't goto a gym look in you local sports store to buy one for home.

Hopes these ideas help you out,

Rob
