1/29: Aches

Good morning athletes!

I think I overdid the speed on Sunday's long run. Still achy for today's 6 miles this AM. But they were "good" aches, they all subsided a couple of miles into the run. After a good stretch, I feel better than when I started!

Funny how some aches get worse, some work themselves out.

I'm glad your aches worked themselves out.

I may not do anything today. I actually slept until 6:45 a.m. but I'm pretty achy too, only my aches involve a bit of a stomache flu. :(

Re: 1/29: Aches

Dave, please tell me more. I've never really paid attention to it in terms of workouts but I know that I naturally have quite a low resting heartrate. Right now, after going to the store with two kids for supplies and putting groceries away my pulse is 52. When I go spinning it can take me over 30 minutes to get my heart rate over 100 and I can generally guess what my heart rate is before I even take it. So, the charts don't really apply to me so I don't know the range or limits that would benefit me. I have a feeling that if I spent some time with an exercise physiologist he would tell me I need to work a lot harder that I do. Beyond that, I don't know much about it. How can I find out more?

The good news about this flu is that it very short-lived. My kids were sick for about a day. I feel like I'm one good nap away from being well again.

Make sure you take it easy for a few additional days after you feel all better. This is especially important if you were running a fever. Easy days don't have to be days off, but you shouldn't be pushing the pace.

It's raining here in Maryland so I just finished an elliptical session: 30 minutes reverse followed by 15 minutes normal.

Re: 1/29: Aches
I got in 6 miles during lunch. 47F, "feels like 42", dark gray skies, a little misty in the beginning. I also felt tight in the beginning, mostly in the calves and hips. I think part of it is the weather is cooler than I'm used to running in. {Wimp} I do stretch about 10 minutes before heading out. About 2.5 miles in I was feeling much better and was able to get in a rhythm. Last 2 miles I felt strong but held back since this week's total mileage will be higher than I've been running lately.

Jen, hope you feel well soon. A couple of down days could be good for your body and spirit. Dave, you're an animal to run 21 hard and not expect to feel the effects two days later.
