Philadelphia Area - Charity Runs

Ok, so I've been running for about 2 years now. I'm doing a lot of 5Ks, 10Ks, 5 Milers and such. I've got training, lifting, running all down pat and there isn't any problem there. Here is what I want to ask.

Who can tell me the best short runs (10 miles or less) in the greater Philadelphia area? I am very partial to Diabetes runs, as my 9 y/o son is type 1. But I like running for ANY good charity, or if the race concludes with free beer, or both!

Re: Philadelphia Area - Charity Runs

There are a few races that I can think of that end with beer:

1) Jenkintown Running Company has had a 5K prediction run on the evening of St. Patrick's Day for the last two years with a keg of Harp at the end. I haven't seen any information on this year's run yet. Not sure what charity it sponsors. http://www.jenkrun.com/

2) Out & Back Party 5K Run, Friday 4/25, 1 Boathouse Row, Philly. ALS Hope Foundation is the charity. Beer & food at the end: http://www.active.com/page/Event_Details.htm?event_id=1516165&assetId=b63decf8-7c1f-4cb9-8ed4-6b72ea120f07

3) Run the Monk, June 6th, 7:30PM, Springfield, PA: http://www.runthemonk.com/

4) Tex-Mex Connection 5K, a Wednesday night in June, North Wales, PA. They raise money for open spaces. Either a free cup of beer or a margarita at the end with Tex-Mex food buffet: http://www.texmexconnection.com/pages/5k-run.htm

5) Run for Your Life, Flanigan's Boathouse in Malvern, PA, Septemer. Food & beer at the end. http://www.gvcc5k.com/

6) Stoudt's Brewing Distance Classic, 12K, Adamstown, PA: http://www.lrrclub.org/

Re: Philadelphia Area - Charity Runs

Run the Bridge is a great 10K which allows runners to run across and back on the Ben Franklin Bridge. The run ends at Campbell's Field in Camden and benefits the Larc School. It was absolutely fun! We're doing it again this year.

Blue Cross hosts the Broadstreet run (10 miles) which is a great event with a lot of spectator support. Last year we met Ed Rendell near one of the water stops. It is a straightaway run and is also great fun.

I live in NJ but take any opportunity we can to run in Philly. It will probably be the place for my first marathon.

Have Fun!
