March 26, 1773 is the birthday of mathematician, ship's captain, actuary, and author Nathaniel Bowditch, often considered the founder of modern maritime navigation, whose 1802 work "The New American Practical Navigator" in updated edition is carried on every commissioned vessel in the United States Navy.

U know, sometimes parents say "Eat your spinach, don't you wanna be like Popeye?"  Or at least my parents used to tell me that.  Now I think, who the heck would wanna be like him?  Bald, smoke a pipe, talk funny, and have a weird body with abnormally large hands and forearms.  Not me.

The last time I saw it was about 3 years ago.  We were driving home from an Ozark wedding and decided to go cross-country, missing St Louis and picking up Chester.  The girls were less interested than El Geezo here.  The Superman statue in Metropolis, IL is maybe 100 miles SE from Chester.

Today is Quirky Country Music Song Titles Day, a day to remember your favorite titles, like "I'm Gonna Hire a Wino to Decorate Our Home" or "Drop Kick Me, Jesus, Through the Goalpost Of Life" or "You're the Reason Our Kids Are Ugly."

    On this date in......

1976: Pittsburgh quarterback Terry Bradshaw's "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry" reached #17, the highest position the country classic had ever reached on the country charts. It was the "B" side of Hank Williams' "My Bucket's Got A Hole In It" in 1949. The B.J. Thomas version made #8 on the pop charts in 1966.

From the backdoor of your life you swept me out dear

In the bread line of your dreams I lost my place

At the table of your love I got the brush off

At the Indianapolis of your heart I lost the race

I've been washed down the sink of your conscience

In the theater of your love I lost my part

And now you say you've got me out of your conscience

I've been flushed from the bathroom of your heart

In the garbage disposal of you dreams I've been ground up dear

On the river of your plans I'm up the creek

Up the elevator of your future I've been shafted

On the calendar of your events I'm last week

I've been washed down the sink of your conscience

In the theater of your love I lost my part

And now you say you've got me out of your conscience

I've been flushed from the bathroom of your heart
