I don't believe we all missed this one. Yesterday (April 18) was the anniversary of the "Midnight ride of Paul Revere"

I saw it, but I figured Immer would find a way to get in.

Re: Man You guys are boring today!

Sorry not to have properly celebrated the date; in the context of Patriot's Day's great running history, it seemed more obvious than it should have.  There is a theory that those born in winter have the greatest chance of becoming distance runners; Geb's April 18th birthday seemed a bit of a surprise.

April 19, 1782, the Dutch Republic recognizes the United States of America, and John Adams' house in the Hague becomes the first US embassy anywhere, although no embassy is properly staffed until the Marines arrive!

A.D. 121:  Happy Birthday to Marcus Aurelius, whose words may be ageless:

"Be content to seem what you really are."

"Each day provides its own gifts."

"Here is the rule to remember in the future, When anything tempts you to be bitter: not, 'This is a misfortune' but 'To bear this worthily is good fortune.' "

"The art of living is more like wrestling than dancing."

Today is the Anniversary of Something That Happened So Long Ago Everyone Has Forgotten What It Was Day.

    On this date in ......

1942: Boston Braves manager Casey Stengel got so mad at rookie pitcher Warren Spahn because he was unable to hit Dodgers shortstop Pee Wee Reese in four pitches, he sent Spahn back to the minors to learn better control. Spahn returned to the majors four years later to become the winningest lefthander of all time.

April 21, 1836, the Battle of San Jacinto turns desperation into a stunning victory and leads to Texas independence.

Today is Aggie Muster Day, a day for current and former students of Texas A&M University to gather to honor Aggies who have died in the past year. The ceremony is celebrated at College Station, Texas, and at more than 400 other locations throughout the world. 100,000 Aggies are expected to muster.

Happy Birthday (1906) to Edward Albert Heimberger, Hollywood's Eddie Albert, who earned his Bronze Star rescuing 47 Marines with his landing craft crisscrossing Tarawa Lagoon under heavy Japanese machine gun fire and supervising the rescue of 30 more stranded far from shore.
