Happy Birthday (1932) to Jim Fixx, from smoker with a horrible family history of coronary artery disease to hero for the common runner to see-I-told-you-running-was-bad-for-you poster child for those looking for reasons not to run after his sudden cardiac death back to see-he-outlived-all-the-other-men-in-his-family example for those who insisted running was great for everything and everybody, a fine runner and human being who deserves better than to be anyone's ammunition.

I'm a bit bored at work so I'll contribute a story.

My little cousin is about two years old and is apparently allergic to clothes.  Whenever his mother puts anything on him, he instantly tears it off.  One afternoon the whole family was at my aunt and uncle's house and my cousin was running around in his birthday suit kicking a soccer ball.  My mother got her camera and focused in to get a picture of the boy and his little naked baby butt playing soccer when right as she was about to push the shutter, he squated and dropped a deuce right there in the grass.  Needless to say the picture didn't have the same affect.

You must run 21 miles first to taste it, but the Cumberland Heritage Society's refreshment stand on the CMM course will offer the first sour-mash-based energy drink in the history of the race.

April 27, 1805, the American flag is raised over the Tripolitan pirate fortress at Derne by First Lieutenant Presley N. O'Bannon, leading 7 other Marines forming part of the group of Americans, Arabs, and Greeks under Consul William Eaton sent to address the ongoing pirate threat to Mediterranean shipping.  Two Marines died and a third was wounded in taking the fortress.

Today is Natural Law Day, marking this date in 1417 when a chicken in Basel, Switzerland, was burned at the stake for violating natural law by laying a brightly colored egg. The chicken was believed to be an Araucana-Ameraucana Strain, or the "Easter Egg Chicken," which gets its name from the Indian tribe of Chile where they were first discovered. Araucanas lay colored eggs of blue-green shades from turquoise to deep olive.

It has been noted that there were no Royal Marines aboard the Bounty, with some believing the seeds of  the mutiny tied to Bligh's "security" plan in their absence.
