Anybody Diagnosed with Ostepenia?

I am sort of new to this board, I was a regular a few years ago and now I'm back. I am wondering if anybody here, probably applies moreso to women, has been diagnosed with osteopenia? (precursor to osteoporosis) My doctor says I need to take meds for it but I would rather not. I'd like to try more natural ways to strengthen my bones. When I asked him if it was OK to start jogging again, he said jogging was too hard on the hips and joints, I should just walk. Well, even when I was in my 20s, I would get sore from jogging. But now I wonder if I should heed his advice. I think exercise would help and an easy jog on my treadmill would be good. What is everyone else's opinion?

Re: Anybody Diagnosed with Ostepenia?
My girlfriend was diagnosed with it about a year ago. She takes a pill once a week. It's a bit hard on the stomach for about 2 hours with no affects after that. She's not a runner but walks and does other exercises. So far, so good. No problems at all. You probably should follow your doctor's advice, but if you aren't comfortable with the idea of taking meds it couldn't hurt get a 2nd opinion.

Re: Anybody Diagnosed with Ostepenia?

..sorry, just saw this.........I got diagnosed a couple of years back,

the other name for this is 'Aging''..........just need to watch it on severe jarring, falling, etc

currently I'm on extra calcium with D,

and doc will check me every year or so to see if it's progressed,

may be a drawback if you bungie jumb\p, but just land soft when you run,

and be suspicious of joint pains that don't go away ......

otherwise, not that big of a deal.........

Re: Anybody Diagnosed with Ostepenia?
I was diagnosed two years ago. No advice not to run. Actually there are all those studies showing weight-bearing exercise is good for the bones. I take 1200mg calcium per day and a prescription capsule of 50,000 units of vitamin D once per month. Two-year follow-up DEXA scan is scheduled in May to measure progress. I'll report back with my results.
