New Balance/running shoe question

Hello all! Please advise....

I was diagnosed with an inflamed tendon on my right foot last Jan. and was told by my ortho. doctor to not run for 6 wks. I am just now getting back into my running program and I am so paranoid about re-injuring my foot. My Dr. recommended New Balance shoes for me. I went to my local New Balance store, and $145 later, walked out.

Are there any other shoes on the market that are not as expensive as new balance. I DO NOT want to get hurt again but it is really difficult for me to pay that much for shoes.

Thanks

Re: New Balance/running shoe question
New Balance sells cheaper shoes... you just ended up in the top of the line. Of course, your post begs the questoin of why your doctor recommended New Balance in the first place. Most likely you were in the wrong shoe and your doctor figured you needed something with support to avoid a repeat performance of the injury. Perhaps New Balance was all he knew? However; they are not the only kid on the block.

I would strongly recommend going to a running store (e.g. Fleet Feet) so you can be correctly fitted with a selection of brands across various price ranges. I assure you, there are many options less than $145. Just look at runningwarehouse.com or roadrunnersports.com to get an idea of the choices and prices for shoes in the same catergory as the ones you purchased (Motion Control, Stability, or Neutral/Cushioned). In the end you may find that your $145 NBs are "THE ONE" but check your options first.

Re: New Balance/running shoe question
I agree with RunAscis that you should talk to folks at a quality running store. I wear New Balance most of the time because they seem to have a last that has the least amount of arch, this was important when I injured by tendon as well. Once I was fitted with the model that would work best for me (not the top of the line either) I was able to get a couple of pair online at a sharp discount. This is especially true when the new shoe models come out. Good luck on your recovery.
