Well, good, I'm glad he's going to run it. Is he fast? Do I need to beat him too? ![]()
He doesn't train and he is sickly fast. His longest training run for Chicago was 8 miles, which he ran once, and he ran a crazy adventure race the weekend before (so no taper) and he kept up with the 3:30 pacers until mile 15. Don't you wish you were 23 again?! Maybe him and Jimmy can take turns running people in!
I do today what you won't, so tomorrow I do what you can't.

Kat - I'm running Chicago instead of MCM this year. Chicago is closed but I'm going to run the Erie marathon before THE marathon as part of my training. If it fits in your schedule...I think we should do it!
Hmmm.... maybe. I'm scheduled for a half marathon that weekend so I was thinking of doing the Ikea trail run. But I just realized that is the weekend before. Would it be suicide to push my training schedule up a week, do the 13.1 on the 6th and the full on the 14th? I'd be due for a 20 miler the weekend of the 14th anyway if I pushed everything up. And that's like 6 weeks before MCM so it wouldn't cut into my taper. Hmmm....

What happened after mile 15? What was his finish time? Inquiring minds want to know! ![]()
And I kinda sorta wish I were 23 again. . . but not really. I was poor, inexperienced, and a little too idealogical then. ![]()
Curly, it's going to be so nice to meet you in Chicago. Can't wait. I need to find something close to home to run before Chicago.

Weren't we all just a tad idealogical at that age?

I dunno, Charlotte, the last time I spoke for "all" I got pretty well flamed. ![]()
I deferred MCM last year for NYC, so I've been in since January, but good reminder thread for everyone! If I hit the NYC lottery for the second year in a row, things get complicated. Odds are high that I'm in for MCM though. I didn't want to do back-to-back weekends last year with it being my first NYC... but (if selected) as my second??
Yo Craig...i'm on the NYC Lottery too. Have you run MCM? I've got a lot of family in NYC who live a block off the NYC route in Brooklyn. compare the experiences (10 points)
Happy Running!

Knees fell apart and his time was 10 minutes slower than my MCM time (muah-haha). Best part was his mom was the one who pointed it out!
I think being at war has resolved the downsides of being 23... being a contractor makes him rather wealthy and being a vet makes him neither inexperienced nor ideological. He's an old soul.

Hmmm.... contractor, vet, no longer ideological... sounds familiar. :-p
Except I'm not 23!
But good to know the 23 year old bonked. Let's see if he can beat this "old" man at MCM (or anywhere!)
Jerry this one is for both sexes right?;)
It's mañana, dudes!

I can't believe it's been a year since I registered for my first marathon! I can't wait to register!
Well, I won't be there, but I'll be at the historic half next year. I just really want to see the silent drill team and they don't perform in the fall when MCM takes place...
Screw Jane Fonda!!!

Expo: Toss up. NYC tends to get more "latest and greatest" stuff being previewed, but MCM has more free samples and better deals. There was a really long line to get into the MCM expo; no such problem in NYC.
Start area: MCM. Getting to baggage at NYC took 40 minutes to move about 300 yards. Also with the start on (subwayless) Staten Island and the finish in Central Park, NYC is logistically challenging.
Excitement: NYC. NYC is king of hype and it's well earned. NYC is also almost half international, which adds some extra flair.
Crowds: NYC. MCM is great with crowd support, but NYC wins hands down. Brooklyn & Manhattan crowd support is amazing!
Terrain: Toss up. The two are about equal in terms of hilliness - middle of the road.
Scenery: Toss up. NYC is a lot of fun neighborhoods, plus the bridges, and Central Park. Y'all know MCM.
Finish area: Forfeit. In terms of just-finished prolonged sardine-like claustrophobia, NYC and MCM were by far my worst experiences.
Medal: Toss up.
