Is two weeks enough between two Olympics?

Hello - I am doing my first two Olympic triathlons on September 7th and September 21st (I hadn't planned it that way, but the dates got postponed). The September 21st race is my 'A' race. I'm currently on a 24 week training plan that includes a fair amount of base training and the end of the 24th week is my September 7th race. My question is: Is two weeks enough time to taper for two Olympic distance races for a beginner. If so, what would you recommend to train during those two weeks?

I'd like to do both races, but I also want to make sure I am not overstretching myself. Would appreciate your thoughts on spacing out two Olympic races for beginners. Thank you!

Re: Is two weeks enough between two Olympics?

Honestly, I don't think 2 weeks is enough time to recover from the first olympic...

It is all about nutrition and sufficient rest in between training/races. If you think you are well enough prepared to do the first (where you will break down some of your body) then come back 2 weeks later to do it all over again, then go for it....

Good luck whatever your decision is!! I couldn't do it B-)

Re: Is two weeks enough between two Olympics?
In my humble opinion, over four months is plenty of time to build up enough fittness for two olympics in four weeks. Last year was my first year of triathlons. I had been running for years but not much cycling and zero swimming. I did around 5 olympic distances, a half marathon and a 70.3 race in September. May 31 was my first olympic distance race. I did not set any land speed records, but I did it. So can you. If I can do it, ANYONE can do it. Just concentrate on the bike. It's all about the bike, and then running off the bike. Keep us posted on your decision and results. Good luck!

Re: Is two weeks enough between two Olympics?

I've done races 2 weeks apart of several occasions. It isn't really enough time to properly recover, but it is do-able. Can the first race be your A race, so the second race is more fun, less pressure? That way you can get all your planned wrkouts in leading up to the first race. Plus, it is not uncommon for people to get sick the week after a race because your immune system is supressed, and it does take 1+ weeks to recover so you won't be able to do the planned A-race workouts in the 2 weeks before your second one. If you do decide to do them both, and keep the second one your goal race, I'd resist every urge to go hard on race 1 and just make it a low intensity 'long workout'. good luck!

Re: Is two weeks enough between two Olympics?
Yes 100% it's enough time. If you follow a training program for the next few months, you'll be just fine. After the first one, be sure to rest and eat well, and rest a few days before the second one. I have a friend who did an Ironman 2 weeks after a marathon. Unless you have never worked out and been a couch potato until today, your body will be fully recovered by then. Good luck!!
