newbie here

I just found this great site and I am hoping to eventually become a runner. My husband and I are planning to do a 5k in October. And I had a few questions how long is a marthron and half marthron I know dumb questions. Another is I just started walking 5 miles and it took me 2 hrs is that too long for a 5 mile walk?

Re: newbie here

Hi and Welcome.

A 1/2 is 13 miles and a marathon is 26 miles. I wouldn't worry at this point how long it takes you to do anything. The point is you're out there and that's what is important. I would suggest taking a look at the C25K (Couch to 5k) program which can be found at www.coolrunning.com and look to use that to help you get to your 5k goal (which by the way is completely attainable). Good luck to you. I look forward to seeing your other posts.

BTW....no such thing as a stupid question.

Hi!! I'd like to echo what Valerie said, and DO NOT worry about your time. You have to start somewhere, we all did, and the important thing to remember is that your getting out there and moving! October is some time away, so you have plenty of time to prepare. Many people walk 5ks, and there are great free training programs out there, whether your goal is to walk it OR run it. My fiance and I started doing 5ks together, and it was wonderful for us... to share a healthy activity! Enjoy yourself and good luck!
