Sun Seekers: Week 7/8 : closing in on the finish

Hi all,

I thought I'd start a thread for anyone who's still out there. I'm actually still on week 6, but I know everyone else is a bit ahead. I've been progressing slowly, but I'm still chugging along. I'm having some soreness in my legs, so I'm trying to slow down.

Radrunner: How did your 5k go?

nanners - so sorry to hear about the pain - any improvement?

I hope everyone is still on track - any decisions about what's next?

Hey--sorry! I just found this thread! I started one for week 8. Thanks for keeping one for week 7.

It's still going well for me though I'm really hitting the wall--no more easy, feel-good runs. It's just work. I hope that will change over time.

What's next? I think just continuing to run for 30 min, 3x/week and gradually increasing speed and endurance. I think I am also going to add weight training back in on off days.

Re: Sun Seekers: Week 7/8 : closing in on the finish

Boy, life really caught up with me after the race. I accomplished my goal-to finish. My hope was to finish in under 45min-yes 38:28, and to say that I ran more than I walked- yes, I walked about 1/4 mile. My friends and I accidentally got started too far forward in the pack and really got pushed fast. I kept up around the track, about 1/4 mile but had to walk as soon as I left the race track for a little while. Then I started to run, if you can call it that, it was just barely faster than a walk but both feet came off the ground. There was a 7 year old boy who I kind of kept pace with, he passed me then I passed him, over and over again till we finished. Boy it sure felt like a lot longer than 38 min. but boy was I excited when I crossed the finish line. As I came back into the track, my husband and a few new friends were there cheering me on, yelling and banging a cow bell. I had tears in my eyes, I still get them thinking about it, but all of the sudden I got a burst of energy and really ran the last 1/4 of the track. It felt amazing! I was the last one to finish in my group of friends but that is ok because I finished. Now I am trying to find another 5k to run that fits into my schedule which is crazy with the end of year activities and graduations, etc. I have only run 6 times since the race on 5/3 but I ran today, 1 mile, and am slowly getting back into it.

Sorry this went so long but it felt good to write about it. Thanks for reading and asking about it.

Good luck to all of you finishing up.

Kris
