I hope all the mothers out there had a great Mother's Day weekend. DH upgraded us to First Class yesterday so the trip back from NYC was quite enjoyable - even the hour we circled around Chicago waiting to land because of bad weather. We even had an actual meal! I'm so used to being part of the 'cattle crowd' that I usually buy a Diet Coke prior to boarding so I have something to drink. I get to see DD next weekend in Green Bay. We normally golf for Mother's Day and plan to do that over Memorial Day Weekend. This is going to be the Mother's Day that just keeps on for me.
Yup - the countdown is definitely on for Green Bay. I took a peak at the first weather forecast - rain...Saturday, Sunday and Monday. I guess it is going to be what it's going to be so I'm trying not to stress out about it. Just planning to bring all kinds of clothes and prepare for any possibility! I ran my last 'long' run today - nine miles! It was strange to run less than a double digit. I've been reading some of the coping mechanisms for running the marathon and one of them is to dedicate each mile to someone different. I am going to do that. So I started thinking about who I would dedicate each mile while I was running this morning - just doing that took time!
Happy - Congrats on the successful meeting yesterday. Your menu for the day looks good too. I'm having my 'normal' Monday night salmon because I really like it! I think I'm going to eat normally until Wednesday and then eliminating any foods that could cause possible GI distress. I finally found a health club with a pool this afternoon when I was walking home from Fleet Feet - it is only about three blocks away - just not in a direction I normally go. I might have to check it out. The aquajogging sounds like something I might like to try myself. They also have spin classes to I'm trying to look ahead!
Maxiemoo - It was great to see your post when I logged on today. Bunions can definitely wreck havoc with your running program. Do you need any special inserts for your shoes? I hope the swim went well today - it sounds like you have a plan and are ready to go with it!
Eskokid - Life can certainly get in the way at times, can't it? I like your post - the voices reminded me of the song 'Flagpole Sitta' - where it states 'the voices in my head, I swear to God it sounds like they're snoring'!!! LOL Glad you went with the plan - makes your DOR that much sweeter. Good luck with increasing your mileage this week - I feel like a slacker!
tmdteach - My kids used to LOVE going to Cracker Barrel when we were on road trips! It sounds like you are doing a good job with your runs. How many days a week are you running?
RedFox - Your family picture from yesterday was really nice. Thanks for your luck for the marathon - good luck to you in Atlanta too! It sounds like you are being very realistic about your job and I like that you might be working in the city! Woo hoo - then we would be able to get together! I'll keep the prayer lines open to the interview gods and hope you get the chance to strut your stuff. I showed DH your weekly menu - he was quite impressed! Do you think your sister is going to want a Garmin of her own after you the 5K together?
GatorGirl - You had quite the hectic, emotional race day on Saturday! Thanks for posting the pictures - they are too cute! DH looks like he was having a grand time. Cranky DS it too cute for his own good! I think I'll probably be cranky Sunday afternoon after getting up early for the marathon! I'm definitely a morning person only on my own terms - coffee and a newspaper! What's with the short supply of porto potties at races of late? I have a question about personal chips - did you order it special? It is something I've been thinking about but haven't done any research on them. Too funny about your cousin taking your sister's place and name across the finish line - all the way from Alabama! I think your DD has something there about running and then sleeping although I think both 1:30 and 4:30 sound scary to me!
nhmommy - Amelia's mother's day present was too cute! Love the curls. Did she learn her song at preschool? I'm not sure how old she is but cute as a button!
Rozzee - Congrats on doing your first 'real' run. Glad you were able to find where to log it.
Bo - LMAO about your going away party - I'm sure you had a blast at the Rainbow bar - we used to do that ourselves when we go back to Wisconsin to visit family. Glad it was a good party and you gotta love the Diet Coke with your Captain Morgans! Woo hoo - DH must be home - I would have LOVED to be a fly on the wall when he saw you! ((( ))) for your massage - the piriformis can cause more pain and stabbing pain than you can imagine. Bless your heart - ice will definitely be your friend! The massage that was done to your piriformis can cause a lot of discomfort the following day and usually subsides shortly thereafter. Definitely talk to your therapist tomorrow about it. Ask if you should do both ice and heat to help the process - called a vascular flushing. That can help the healing process.
Shannon - Ouch about the laptop. I've had that same problem in the past and 'try' to backup my stuff - some months I'm better than others. Sorry that you weren't able to run your 10K last weekend although the spinning class sounds like it was just what you needed.
Life - I hope you are feeling better. Bless your heart for not being able to run but thankfully had someone with you that was able to do the driving. There must really be something going around - I've heard a lot of people getting sick quickly. We saw a play called 'Top Girls' on Saturday night at The Biltmore Theatre. Unfortunately, it was the worst play I saw in a LONG time. DH pretty much slept through it! LOL. You have lots of culture in the national parks - just on a more serene key! We have always tried to join the local theatre wherever we live so we would have a date night while the kids were growin up. It was always easy to say 'next weekend' and then nothing would happen. At least joining for a season forced us to get dressed up and now it is just a part of what we do.
Colleen - How did you feel after your 12-miler? Hopefully that means you didn't have strep. Do you feel like you are ready to get back to your 'normal' training routine now or still recovering from Boston? Glad DS is on the mend too. How was ocean yesterday? Do you feel the way you changed your food plan worked well for you? Any suggestions of things you might have changed?
That's about it for now. I'm planning to get my BIL's photo ready to put on my singlet. That is tomorrow's goal. Hopefully I'll be able to post a photo of it. I am also planning to have the names of the people I'm dedicating miles to typed and laminated and wear on my wrist so I can remember who I'm running for! I suffer from CRS syndrome - Can't Remember Sh*t! Any other suggestions for the week more than welcome.
Have a great evening.
