My First 5k ~ I Did It : )

Thank you ALL for all your support and advises! I did it! I ran my FIRST 5k yesterday (Mother's Day) and I was nervous at first and kept thinking that I would not make it in the time I set as my goal (under 30 minutes) and I honestly thought I'd be among the last people to finish the race. Thankfully and VERY proudly I barely made it under 30 minutes! I clocked in at 29:56, which is VERY close to 30 but I'm SO proud of myself specially since this is my FIRST 5k. Now I know what to expect and on my next 5k coming in early June, I will then try to out do this time.

Congrats!

I'm not a runner - though I try to run - mostly for cardio/fat burning. And there's nothing like finishing your first race. The subsequent ones are fun too! Now I'm running 5 mi races and hope to do some 10k's. I'm also doing a couple of triathlons for the first time this year.

Good luck!

It's good to see that you're already hooked!
Congratulations on finishing your first 5K and good luck in all your future events.
Happy running!

Congrats!!! Never count yourself short! Last winter I did my first 5K, and since then I have joined 3 more races from 5K to half marathons. Its all about pace. Before my half marathon, I ran 7 miles max. I signed up because a few friends wanted to go. I ended up finishing the whole thing without stopping, and finished in 2 hours and 4 minutes! 9:30 min miles for all 13.1! Always try to do more than you can, because you will always suprise yourself!

That is amazing! Way to go! Don't you dare look at your time and think "barely under 30". You set a goal of 30 and you beat it. That is so wonderful. If I could do anywhere near 29min. 56sec. I'd be doing a happy dance so boisterous that you'd all be able to see it. :D

Re: My First 5k ~ I Did It : )

I too did my 1st 5k recently. I used to run track in HS, although that was 20 years ago. I just got over having cancer & a friend asked if I wanted to run. So I figured why not. I didn't train for it & I worked the night before. So I ran it without getting any sleep. After walking 8 times I finished in 33:04. Since then I've done 3 more 5Ks. 1 each weekend, each 1 done the same way. Without training or sleep. lol I finished each after walking less in 30:30, 30:17 and finally this past saturday 30:45. I keep hoping to finish an entire race without walking & in under 28 minutes.

I did my first this past weekend too. Although my number wasn't as great as you alls (38:30) it was good for me. I was pushing a jogger too so that added made me very proud of myself. I have been looking into getting a "hobby" and I think I may have found it! I am signed up for a 5 miler in January and hope to finish that in under an hour. I am looking for another 5 k in the meantime so that I can finsih in less than 30 minutes

OP, you did a WONDERFUL job!
