Numb foot while running?

I am a new runner, started back in february, and have just completed the c25k and my first 5k (Yay!) I am a SLOW runner, and I am also overweight. When I run (or do elliptical, treadmill, etc.) my left foot starts to go numb, and by the time I finsih, it is completely numb. The feeling starts in my toes, after about 20 minutes, but it eventaully spreads to my whole foot. It doesn't hurt (as I can't feel it at all :) ) but it is very annoying. Once I stop running, it feels better pretty quickly. I have tried loosening my shoelaces, but it still happens. I have pretty new running shoes, from a running store, but no change.

Anyone else experience this? And any ideas what causes it and what to do about it?

Thanks for any input! Kerry
