C25K Week 7

I started week 7 today. The only problem was that I forgot to review what the week 7 plan was. I was thinking we jumped up to the 28 min run part. However, AFTER my run, I found that week 7 is a repeat of week 6 of a 20 min run. Oh well- too late now

So the good news is that I thought I was suppose to run for 28 mins. So that was my goal that I had and that is what I did. Actually, I ran for 28 mins and 43 sec. Why do I mention the mins and sec????

Because- that took me right to my 5K run marker ! That's right- I ran 5K today with no problems at all.

YAHOO- I just ran 5K and i did it under my goal time of 30 mins. Now this isn't the actual 5K race that I signed up for in the last Saturday of June, but was on my practice run area. So now I've managed to achieve another goal !!

The weather really sucked though- it was 47 degrees, rain and miserable. But, I read if you are goning to be a runner, that you gotta run in any weather conditions as you never know what the weather will be on race day.

Non smoker now for: Sixteen Days, 20 Hours and 21 Minutes, while extending my life expectancy 1 Day and 4 Hours, by avoiding the use of 337 nicotine delivery devices that would have cost me $62.38.

Re: C25K Week 7

Great job, Slaptear2! It's great to track progress, isn't it? For me that really helps keep me committed. The last thing I want at this point is having to go back to earlier week runs. So I think it's great that you're tracking your time, distance, number of minutes added to your life and money saved! Keep up the good work!

Re: C25K Week 7
Today is W7D1 for me...and I talked myself outa running today, then I talked myself back into running. I really feel crappy today. Cramps, Headache, really a number of good reasons not to run. But, I got on the treadmill ran it anyway.
I promised myself that if I just got on the treadmill I wouldn't have to go fast, just walk even to get the 2.5 miles in. But as I got on the treadmill I figured, well I can walk at 3.5Mph and once I had 5 minutes in, I figured...well I can jog for a bit...that bit added up being 30:30 minutes and 2.5 miles....that's how I tricked myself into running today....lol.

slaptear2
I took your advice and lowered my run pace...I was going about 5.2MPH I brought that down to 4.8 and was able to complete 30 minutes to get my 2.5 miles in. No flying off the back of the treadmill for me...lol...:^0

Re: C25K Week 7
Slaptear - CONGRATS, that is such an awesome time and you haven't even completed C25K yet! Wow! You reached your goal way ahead of time - I bet you're psyched to run a 5K race now! Go Boilers.

Kathe - That was smart to slow down, speed will come with time. Makes life a little bit more pleasant! Hee! I told my husband to slow down after he repeatedly had bad run after bad run - and he finally listened to me for the first time - and last night, he actually had a nice run!

FMR - From the previous week's convo, it is funny that you mentioned a Tri... I kinda looked into how to train for one (wow), it will definately take a while to train for a sprint, but I may have to do it someday. There are no swimming competitions around here, the closest one (right now) is 4 hours away! Yuck! I live near a major city, but for some reason - the swimming programs don't have a lot of competitions... don't know why. Anyways, I may have to TRY a TRI someday. Didn't you do one?

I went to swim practice today for the first time in a year - and man, did it hurt... plus it was at 5:30am! And of course, they were working on middle distance work - so I pretty much died (I'm a sprinter). We used fins on the last set - I did OK because my legs are in relatively good shape. HA! My D1 is tonight, I'll update later.

B-)

Re: C25K Week 7

Hi all!

Did W7D1 yesterday. Boy did it heat up in the desert here! It was about 85 for my run. A little slower pace helped me keep going. I forgot my hat, so I had the sun in my face all the way out. I have a nice route to run, the wind is usually at my back on the way home, and I have a couple of trails I can turn off on if I am feeling masochistic and want to do some hills. It's about half dirt road and half asphalt, with a dirt shoulder for the dog to run on. Made it all the way, with no walking. As usual, the hardest part of the run was in my head. :)

Run like H3ll !

Re: C25K Week 7

slaptear - You are on a roll!

FMR - Sorry about that heat... I couldn't do it!

Completed D1 tonight. I absolutely couldn't do it last night, I had no energy. After hubby got home... we ate dinner and then I took my kid on some errand shopping, and when I got home - I CRASHED. I tried to get up and do my run, but I couldn't. It may take me a while to get used to the run & swim schedule. Tonight's run was hard... the first 15 minutes were awful and the last 10 were a little bit better.

Day 2 done!

The head game started way too early today, thogh. I'm sitting eating my lunch at work today, and already my wimp gland was acting up: "Oh, it"s going to be just TOO hot to run today, you can make it up tomorrow" etc. I dragged my sorry butt out anyway at 6:00 pm. Turned out to be a great run! It's wierd, but I usually have my best runs when I start out not wanting to go. Wierd, huh?

Run like H3ll !

Re: C25K Week 7

That's awesome, Slap. You're definitely ahead of me, probably in part because you went the smart C25K way rather than just going out and running like I did.

That said, the first time I ran 5k (on my 3rd run - end of my first week) it took me ~ 46 minutes...although that wasn't an "attempt at a time" (nor have any of my other runs been)...I just set out to survive the distance and that's what it took me.

Last time I ran a properly measured 5k at least I was down to 39:xx last week - in my 5th week of running.

Re: C25K Week 7

That was awful. When I stood on the treadmill to begin, I instantly wanted to get off and go back home. The whole thing was strange, my warmup was so slow and I felt like my legs were dragging for the entire run. That was D2, hope that doesn't happen again for D3. Maybe my legs are dead from yesterdays practice or maybe I ran too close to after dinner and was just sluggish. Oh well, swim practice tomorrow at 8am - looking forward to it!

Have a great weekend, everybody!

Re: C25K Week 7

Slaptear, love your quote.

However, I think I broke my pinky toe this morning! As I was headed to bed last night, I stubbed it on the babies' bouncer (metal base). Then when I got up at 4:45am for a early morning feed, I hit the darn thing again in the SAME PLACE!!! It hurts so bad everytime I take a step - the little toe is purple and red. OUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
