Starting C25K week of May 18th - Anyone else?

Okay fellow runners, I am going to try the C25K again. I've been away from running for a few years now. I have my new running shoes and am set to go. Tues, Thurs and Sat will be my running days.

Anyone else starting?

I am going to be starting the week of May 18 as well. I'll be running M W F. I ran W1 D1 today just for practice. I'm tempted to skip ahead to week 2, but I'm going to stick to the plan and not push too hard.

Hi... I actually started Runner's World 8 week program this past week...BUT ...I've looked over the C25K program, and am switching tomorrow! Good luck, and I, too ran many years ago. :)

Re: Starting C25K week of May 18th - Anyone else?

I am restarting the 18th. I started back in April but had to stop for a couple of weeks due to a knee injury. But I've tested out the knee by jogging on it a bit and it feels good! I'm going to do a "test run" tomorrow (Saturday morning) to get it back into my system and see if I am going to start on W1 or W2.

It is good to see other people starting. Maybe it will provide a little extra motivation. I used to be super athletic up until about 13 years ago. Snice then I've tried biking for a while to the point I was riding 30 miles on some weekend days. I've tried jogging, but I always get impatient and try too much too soon, and end up with too much leg pain and not enough results. I'm hoping to stick to this plan and do things more gradual. Good luch everyone!

Re: Starting C25K week of May 18th - Anyone else?

Hey, I started today. :-) It's good to see other people jumping on the train. That's a big motivation booster. :- ) I've been running for a few months just for the heck of it and nothing too regimented, so I decided to hop on the C25K for some structure and endurance help. First day seemed easy, but I wont push it as I'm sure it was set up like that for a reason. :-) I also decided to invest in some nice shoes and OMG what a difference. I got some New Balance 473s I know they aren't fancy but they help.

Good luck everyone!!

My first run will be on Monday. I plan on running MWSat or T, TH, Sat. It will probably depend on the week.

I'm currently downloading Robert Ullrey's podcasts to get ready!

Re: Starting C25K week of May 18th - Anyone else?

I have always wanted to be a runner. Everyone that does (that I know) seems to enjoy it and are healthy. I was thinking about starting the program again this week and really sticking to it, not skipping ahead and getting discouraged as I have done before. I want to run a half-marathon. And I'm running to lose weight, too. Having this 'community' will be great for support and and encouragement.

Have fun everyone!

Re: Starting C25K week of May 18th - Anyone else?
Hello, all - starting c25k this wk as well...

Will be running T, Th, and Sat or Sun ea wk on trails the Sierra Club maintains here in San Carlos (San Francisco Bay Area). Looking fwd to the encouragement, as I haven't been able to commit to an exercise program lately (been trying on and off for ~ 6 mos) and I want this to be the one!

I also do yoga or Pilates 2x/wk at the gym and practice a short (but tough) series of 5 asanas - called the 5 Tibetans (or, more traditionally, 5 Rites of Rejuvenation) - in the AM most days. One is such a pain I injured my abs and had to modify it. I wish they had a couch-to-yoga for this series!

Other than getting to the 5k comfortably and injury-free, by other goal is dropping 40 lbs. Doing Wt Watchers.

I checked out Ullrey's podcasts, BTW, but have chosen those from Podrunner instead. I just like the music better for some reason. Also, weeks 5 and 6 in this series each have a 3-part progression, as does the c25k program. No human voice coaching you, though - there are melodic tones when it's time to switch pace.

Looking fwd to reading abt everyone's pain and gain! - Cara

Re: Starting C25K week of May 18th - Anyone else?

I started week one today, using the podcast. I'm really starting from the couch as I have never been very fit, running especially has been a fight since elementary school and the president's physical fitness challenge. I'm trying to lose weight and improve my cartiovascular health (I have mild asthma). I wasn't able to make it throught the full thirty minutes today, after the 4th interval my lungs were burning, so I did the 90 second recovery period and then jumped to the last interval and the cool down.

Congratulations for getting that far! When I first started trying to get into shape a couple of years back, I don't think I even made it that far. The main thing to remember, for me at least, is not to get discouraged by what I can't do, but to celebrate what I can do. The way I look at it now is even if I can't do everything I'm supposed to on a day, I'm still doing a lot more than if I was still on the couch.

Re: Starting C25K week of May 18th - Anyone else?
I discovered this just recently, and will begin today after work. In the days in between training, should we be going for walks as well? I would like to lose weight. I've had great success with Weight Watchers with, believe it or not, very little exercise. I seem to have hit a plateau and hope the exercising will help. The running should also help keep the weight off right? :^0 My ultimate goal is to be able to do 5 miles a few times a week, with a 10K race/fun run here and there.

I also found the 5 rites recently as well. I tried them last night, not entirely focused, but just to see how they work. I did 10 of each Rite. Wow! Such a bust of energy! I heard somewhere that this is the only toning exercise you will ever need, but I doubt that for some reason. I don't doubt that it's good for you though!

Re: Starting C25K week of May 18th - Anyone else?
I'm starting week 2 on thursday. I run at 6.30 am before school, and for the moment am finding week 1 incredibly easy. I'm already quite a good wrestler, so am having difficulty holding back. I shan't, however, skip forewards, I'll wait. anyone else having trouble refraining? also, do you stretch after your run?
