Fall Marathon Training Thread

OK. We've passed the magical six-months-to-New-York mark (and to Chicago and MCM and Cape Cod, etc.). So those planning/hoping/praying to do a fall marathon should be turning to thoughts of mileage. It's early yet, but I figured we can have a check-in for Fall marathons here as well as a weekly thread. This was a big thread on CoolRunning, and we had a Spring thread here (thanks Ewart). Perhaps we can continue that tradition.

So post -em if you've got them.

Joe Garland--------NYC (11/2)-------2:45 (There. Now that it's been published I'm committed.)

Re: Fall Marathon Training Thread
Although I am planning to run an October marathon I'm not sure which one.

For now it is looking like:
October 5
Cowtown Sacramento
Goal - 3:03

There are 2 other possibilities, including Chicago which I've already paid my entry for. Long story on why I've gotten cold feet.

Official marathon training doesn't begin until late June although I've averaged 60 mpw for last 4 months. I probably won't go much higher than 70's but hope I can get to that level and hold it for a few weeks between now and Oct.

Okay, all I can commit to is

MCM
10/26/2008

4:30 (which would better my last year's time by 15 minutes)

Re: Fall Marathon Training Thread

Hi.

Maybe this is the thread I need to commit to a fall marathon. My friend and I have been 'throwing around' a few to try and qualify for Boston.

Either 1)Phili or 2)Bay State (in Lowell, MA)----------Hope to run sub 3 hours but sub 3:10 will suffice.

Best,

Re: Fall Marathon Training Thread

Hello, I'm planning to run Hartford on October 11. My goal, for now, is 2:50. I've run four marathons up to now:

  • Mystic Country - Oct. 2006 - 3:00:40
  • Roxbury - Dec 2006 - 3:15:05
  • Boston - April 2007 - 3:01:30
  • Boston - April 2008 - 2:57:55

I've been ramping up mileage since this year's Boston Marathon, and I'll start a training schedule in June. I've been following Pfitzinger's Advanced Marathoning book for my previous races, but I may try a modified schedule this time. McMillan's website has an interesting alternative training schedule.
