New to running... can I do it?

Hello! I have never ran more than a mile before in my life... that is until recently. I started running about a month ago, and currently the longest I've ran without stopping is 3.6 miles (a big feat for me!). Anyway, I wanted to do a half ironman in September (that means 13.1 miles of running). I'm 19, and my parents are worried it's too much for me since I've never ran before. Do you think I'm over-doing it, or is this an attainable goal? I really want to do it!

Thanks!

Welcome to active.com!
I think a half-ironman is a fantastic goal, but probably not one you should try to complete in only four months.  You might be able to finish, but it would likely be a miserable and painful experience that could easily lead to injuries.  I recommend you start off with a sprint triathlon first and then work up to olympic distance before attempting a half-ironman.  At 19, you've got plenty of years ahead of you to train properly and race to your heart's content.  Let us know if you have any more questions.
Good luck and happy running!
