Morning workouts....

What does everyone do either the night before or morning of a really early workout to make sure that you actually go? Because It's very hard to get out of that warm and cozy bed to do a workout before your day even starts! Does anyone have any tricks other then setting two alarms one next to you, and one on the other side of the room so you actually have to get up to turn it off :)

Thanks!

Since my workouts are before work, I just get up earlier. I have more energy (once I get going) in the morning than in the evening. Once I hear the alarm, I start moving.

You have to make it part of your daily routine.

1. Go to bed at the same time every night so you're used to getting up early. Try to get 7-8 hours of sleep per night.

2. Set out your workout clothes or pack your gym bag the night before.

3. Workout with a friend and commit to being there.

4. Make it a priority. Either you want to get faster or in better shape or you don't.

5. Give yourself a treat after your AM workout .

Twice a week, Tues and Thurs, I will stop at the gym to lift after work. Before work I run 2 miles and swim approx 25-30 minutes. Many times I am fairly tired by the end of the day, so I dont do 2 cardio workouts.

If I am able to work from home I may get in a second cardio around noon. Today I ran 3 miles at 5 am, then a 20 mile bike at noon.

I try to do the shorter of my workouts in the morning before work. Hopefully you can eat breakfast after your AM workout so you're not crashing from low blood sugar and that you get to eat lunch during your clinicals. Also try taking a snack to eat after lunch.

Stick with it. It may be that your body just has to get accustomed to two workouts a day.

I am an early morning workout person. More by neccesity than choice (have to be at work by 6:15am) and I agree with Doc Tri here. Prep the night before.

Pack or have laid out all your gear, including a snack/breakfast to take with you if needed. (It takes me 10 mins to do this at night and 20mins this morning since I am not awake yet)

Have a specific planned workout for the next morning so that you don't just compromise and get up late and cut it short.

Just think about how good you are gonna feel when you arrive at work, wide awake and ready for anything. Especially when everyone else is still rubbing the sleep from their eyes.

Good luck.

I love my 6am workouts. Its nice to get it done and over with early in the day, before there are any excuses. There are the points that I would like to add:

- put your alarm clock far from your bed, so you cannot hit snooze

- download a book onto your mp3 player, so you look forward to the next chapter

  • schedule the first 5-10 min for wake-up time. use the time to get dressed, check the temp, stretch, etc
