Am I the only one that ran long today? No wonder it felt so lonely... ![]()
Got up at 4:45 a.m., trying to catch some cooler weather. On the road at 5:15. It was only low 70's, which was nice, but 100% humidity (fog) and like breathing in the pool. Yuck. However, that wasn't going to stop me. I was having an interiority complex after reading about everyone's long runs yesterday.
Pretty much stayed right on target for my progression run, averaged 10:22 for the first 15 miles (target was 10:30), then last three should have been at 9:40, 9:30, 9:20. Actuality: 10:00 (stopped for a drink/cracker), 9:32, 9:21. I'm tired. Had my ice bath, now having my cup of coffee.
18 miles, 3:05 - check.
Yay Nita! Atta girl!! Way to get out there in spite of the humidity! And doesn't it feel great to check it off and hit your splits and just kick butt?! Woohoo ![]()
I do today what you won't, so tomorrow I do what you can't.
Up Next: Rest! And celebrating my JFK50 finish with a vacation in Roma! | My Running Blog
Nita, what an awesome run, and yes, you were out there by yourself, most of us still fat and happy in bed. I'm going now for a 4 or 5 miler, see how the spirit strikes, then off to a bbq.
Leg check today after 21 on Saturday, hoping they all work just fine. Weather is clear, sunny, and low 70's. Short runs are feeling to short! But I must be smart.
Great job Nita, it is tough being out there alone on the long runs.
......and you wondered if you could be ready by MCM? Way to go!!!!!!!
Ok, legs still work, but still a bit fatigued, 6.5 miles in 64 minutes, with run walk pace. Now about 80, and I'm glad to be done!!! Tomorrow is way easy, and shorter. I think my mind is mush, why am I doing this?

Either the medication wore off or it has yet to be prescribed!
Run happy!
That's awesome Kat! I did 17 Sunday as well, however much slower. My legs felt like lead and I struggled to finish under an 11 minute pace (came out to 3:06:37, or 10:59/mile). I didn't start until late due to thunderstorms all morning, so it was a bit hotter. 18 miles next weekend - I'll shoot for a 10:30 pace and see how I do. I think taking a week and a half off from running was harder to bounce back from than I expected.
I've got 15 miles scheduled for tomorrow. May take it to 17 if the conditions are good. Hope everyone has good ones. Talk to you soon.

Good luck, Karl! I'll be thnking of you! Well, I'll probably be asleep really
Hope you have some nice weather for your long run.
Hey Karl....good luck tomorrow! I just ran a 1/2 Marathon race today, again I must be nuts. It was 93% humidity, in the mid 70's, and I felt ok, but last weeks long run still left my legs wanting more, or was it the tempo run on Wednesday. With all that said, I still finished in 1:54, sticking to my plan which meant I walked through the water stops and actually drank water, and ate my gel pack. Also had one stop at a portajohn along the way too.
Legs feel good, and am ready for another week...next Sunday is 20 again!
Good luck to all running long tomorrow.
Ken
ok so longest run since the games has been 3 miles so I have some catching up to do...
You weren't alone. I did my first 16 miler today, started at 6AM, beautiful day, ugly run. But I got through it. Had all kinds of issues pop up, cramping in the legs, some foot pain at one point. I walked for a bit. I was still able to keep below 13:00 miles. You all warned me there would be days like this. ![]()
Dave, you did it and finished it inspite of all the misery. The next one will be better.
Thanks for the encouragement. My first 20 miler on the 28th is the one I really hope goes well. The funny thing to me is consistently during my training I've found that on the mornings I can't seem to drag myself out of bed I always have my best runs. On the days I wake up feeling great, I have my worst. Go figure. Maybe I should spend the next 49 days not wanting to get out of bed!
Dave, bed's not a bad place to be.
