Ok, just finished the long run from he!!. 18 very, very, very long miles. Ran the first 6 with lots of effort and almost decided to call it quits, then decided to do the 9 min run 1 min walk routine. Did that all the way and still had a he!! of a time finishing, but it's done. Don't know why it was so tough, but it was. Finished in 3:07:47 Well next week it'll be 13.1 in Montreal and we'll see how that goes. Glad to read that everyone else had great runs. That does give me hope. Have a great day everyone.
Charlotte,
Without these runs the really good ones would go unnoticed. Glad to hear you finished it up. Chicago will be great. I can't hardly wait to see some of you guys again.

Thanks Jimmy, I can't wait for Chicago either and see you guys, it's going to be a lot of fun.
Don't think I've pitched in on this thread in quite some time, but here goes...
20 hilly miles. It sucked.

It's 20 miles. It's supposed to suck. But you did it
Congrats!! ![]()
Char, you too. If running were easy, everyone would do it. Being able to get through a tough 16 miles shows your character and being able to do it now will help you in other runs and races down the road.
I'm proud of you both for sticking through it.
I do today what you won't, so tomorrow I do what you can't.

I'll be there, shooting for a sweaty hug from the guy in the MCM shirt with one blue eye and one brown eye, at about 1:45:45.
What? Now I have to wear my MCM shirt?
I was going to wear my R&R shirt.
No, I'll just find some other sweaty guy who fits that description. LOL.

Ron, I'm right there with you, it sure as he!! sucked. But as Jimmy said, the shi!!y ones make the good ones seem so much better, right, yeah.
NOT.
Karl,
Well run, well executed run today! Cold towels, that is a brilliant idea too! Weird how I feel more wiped out form the 1/2 Marathon than I did with what has turned out to be even longer than the 21 I thought I ran (it looks like I ran over 22). Walked quite a bit this am to loosen up the legs, and will get back to business tomorrow. I think I am going to follow higdon's plan, and then look at a couple of taper plans in October.
Last year it was hard as hell to pull back, but the result was amazing.
Again, to all that ran long today, cograts! another week done, and we are getting closer and closer to our goal.
Ken
Thanks, Charlotte! Fortunately I have a short memory. I'll forget this morning's run. Feel decent now, at least, after mowing the lawn.
Strange sight during the run: I saw a chicken crossing the road ahead of me.
"Why???" I was obligated to ask her.
She stopped, turned and clucked, "Hey, I'm not the moron trying to run 20 miles!"

Ron.... buddy... at what mile did you see this talking hen?
Ron, what an incredibly bright chicken.
Ron.... buddy... at what mile did you see this talking hen?
Uh, that would be around mile 12. Yeah, a little early, I know.

Maybe consider hydrating a little earlier? ![]()
19 miles turned into 201/4 and YES it did SUCK!!! But I did it! It is done. Hope my next 20 miler feels much better. Not a good day for me, today.
Okay, so I can't run, but I did ride 40 hilly miles on my bike today. That is the farthest I have ever ridden a bike...ever in my life. I'm happy to have some success with something!! ![]()
