Morning Calf Pain

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone else gets extreme calf pain in the morning
right when they wake up? But it never last very long about a minute
at the most, and its like an intense cramping like pain. Does
this happen to anyone else and if it does, do you have any tips on how
to stop it? I alway stay really hydrated and eat very well and idon't
really know what causes it or how to make it stop. I think it could be
partly from training on the bike but i'm not sure, any advice would be
great thanks!

I get this sometimes when I am forced into a late evening workout and go to bed shortly after words, my calves and quads are tight in the morning. Probably because I did not have sufficeint time to re-hydrate before going to sleep. Do you ever workout out in the late evening?

Yes it is, last night the kids went to bed late so I didn't get out till almost 9pm. Got back around 10, it was a hilly run so this morning the are a little tight.

Try "Monson (sp?) Socks". I have been having problems with plantar fasciitis (irritation of the Plantar Fascia on the bottom of the foot), and bought these socks at a running store for use at night in bed. They do not allow you to point your toes, and in fact keep your toes in a stretched position all night. The PF stopped in 2-3 nights of wearing them. Because they keep the foot at a 90 degree angle to the leg they also made my calves feel terrific.

May work for you, hope it helps!

Hey! You didn't drink enough. I've learned that after doing a long run or bike I'll wake up screaming-- paralyzed by pain if I don't re-hydrate. And when I say drink I mean water or gatorade, anything but alchohol, it helps to dehydrate you.

Google and look up trigger point therapy. Spend the money and buy the ball and calf roller thing -- worth every penny -- and roll your calf out on it for about 5-minutes after workouts or before bed -- should fix the issue! I had calf and piriformus issues, worked like a champ on both of those!
Best of luck!
