I train about 15 to 20 miles a week which includes a longer run of 6 to 8 miles on Saturdays. So I'm out about 3 times a week.
The last 2 weeks I've been offline with some distractions and have two weeks to kick myself in the butt and give a final push to prepare.
Your choice: more miles/run, more runs/week, increase duration/run at same pace, intervals for speed?? AAAHHH!!
I'll ask around for you for some information, but I just wanted to say welcome to the forums! I'll keep you posted...
With only two weeks to go before your race your body doesn't actually have time to truly benefit from the training you will be doing from now on. You certainly don't want to add any additional miles or duration at this point. My recommendation would be to cut back your mileage to about 75%, but include one fast 4-5 mile tempo run each week.
Good luck and happy running!
It doesn't sound like covering the distance will be an issue for you. Since you are so close to the race date, you may want to plan a couple strong tempo runs at race pace, say two sets of 3 milers or maybe a 5 miler to simulate race conditions without going overboard. This will get you ready for the real deal.
Thanks Jay and DF,
I'll throw in a fast 5 miler and see what happens. I covered the whole 7 miles in a decent timeframe. I always go a little too fast with other runners around me. I have to work this race to hold back in my first 2 miles of hills so I have plenty left to finish with.
