Cool...maybe we'll be in the same wave, but I'm thinking I will probably start towards the back...at least thats my thinking right now.
Well, you can do the tourist thing since this is your first time in the Chi. Navy Pier is a good time, and on Saturday's they have fireworks at 10:15 (not sure what time you will going to bed). There is also Millenium Park, and that is very close to where you are staying. There are a lot of good restautants up and down Michigan avenue, which is where you will be. A good site to check out for some more: http://chicago.metromix.com/ It gives a lot of ideas on things to do in the city.
Friday morning I need to get my bike put together and then I can spin around town. Saturday night, I'll be looking to watch the men's Olympic marathon so hopefully the fireworks at 10:15 will be in celebration of Ryan Hall's victory! Thanks for the link, Chicago looks like a great time
Little FYI for you....Be VERY careful when you ride, thats if you ride on the streets, as apposed to the trail along the lake. Cabs/regualr cars/buses/even pedestrians don't care about cyclists. You probably already know, but when passing parked cars, look at the rear view mirrors to see if someone is in the car. Many people have gotten tossed bc. of that this year.
Oh yeah, I forgot about the marathon. Chances are that I will probably be watching it too. My fiance loves the marathon, yet, shes not a runner. She used to work for the Chicago Marathon, so thats why. Yeah, you'll definitely need to come back when you don't have a race so you can really appreciate everything that there is to do over here.
Right on yeah I'll be sure to be cautious. I know what its like to get hit and its not fun at all. I'll have a good tour guide though. Yeah I'm excite to experience Chicago under such unique circumstances and will def need to make a return visit to see it all. Thanks for the info
Hey Dan,
I have only done one olympic distance this summer, so I am hardly an expert. One piece of advice I would offer is to stay focused these last few weeks, and if you can swim the course that you will do for the event. If not try to simulate it as close as you can. I did this and it gave me a great deal of confidence on race day.
