Toenail bleeds while running

I used to have a black toenail, but a few months ago it went away and it is now a normal-looking toenail. Now that same toenail is bleeding quite a bit whenever I run. It doesn't hurt, though. It just... bleeds. I know that my shoes are not too small, and when I put a bandaid on it the blood just seeps through. What should I do? It's the beginning of the cross country season and I REALLY don't want any stupid injuries like a bloody toenail holding me back!

I get blood under the toenail sometimes and sometimes it bleeds enough to discolor my left shoe.  I believe it is the cracking from a touch of athlete's foot.
