THE NORTH FACE ENDURANCE CHALLENGE, WASHINGTON, DC, CANCELLED
The North Face Endurance Challenge, Washington, D.C. is cancelled due to the projected effects of Tropical Storm Hanna.
After much deliberation with all entities involved with permitting and planning of the race, including Algonkian Regional Park, Great Falls Park, Shenandoah Mountain Rescue Group, The National Weather Service and Fairfax/Loudoun County Government Officials, The North Face determined the storm will create hazardous conditions outside the realm of management. This decision was made in order to preserve the safety of participants, volunteers, event staff, medical personnel, and all other parties involved with this event.
As stated in the Active.com registration and waiver, cancellation in the event of a force majeure does not generally offer refunds or credits applied to future events. In an effort to applaud the training and preparation efforts, The North Face will be:
· shipping each participant a racer bag (retail value of $80)
· refunding 50% of the registration fee*
The North Face, event sponsors Gore-Tex, Boa, Accelerade, and Microsoft, along with Endurance team athlete Dean Karnazes, invite participants to meet tomorrow evening, September 5, 7:30 - 9:30 p.m. at the Marriott at Tyson's Corner to pick up racer bags, meet fellow runners and Dean Karnazes.
Refreshments and hors d’oeuvres will be served. There will also be raffles, with the opportunity to win a Microsoft ZUNE.
