It will all settle out soon enough. Lance is unique.

The excitement around the Tour of California which is always amazing will be even more amped up with Lance being there!! I am putting on a fun, sag supported camp that will be an excellent way to be part of this excitement on the mountaintop finish on Palomar.

Kev,
I hope you arent planning on a mountain top finish. The last stage starts in Rancho Bernardo and ends in Escondido. Heres the kicker, if the waether is too bad they could bypass Mt Palomar all together. This info comes from two very good scources one works for the Tour of California as a course marshall the other handles neautral support for Mavic. I think when Mt Palomar was first mentioned someone assumed a mountain top finish but if you have ever riden up there you would know there is not enough room for the carnival.
Damon,
Thanks for your concern and information. I am in the process of trying to find out the actual route they plan but I'm sure it is still a work in progress for them.
It still is looking like the plan is for a mountaintop finish on Palomar. The initial media releases and several subsequent ones point to this (such as the one at this link) . http://www.nctimes.com/articles/2008/09/25/news/sandiego/z67a3090e6de6d867882574cf007d5d18.txt

This is so cool! We just got a couple of inches on the ground here in SE Michigan and we still have discussions of a great road race!

Kevin,
If you go to the official Tour of California web sight the start and finish points of all 9 stages are listed but the actual routes to get to the end destinations are to be determined. On the map though the start point is clearly marked as rancho Bernardo and finish Escondido . Whatever you are planning for Palomar I wish you luck. I looked at the news link you posted and the date the story ran was long before any of the routes were finalized.
Damon,
Thanks. I do plan to stay on top of route finalization and provide campers with a great experience of the last stage no matter what the actual route. Since I will have a large sag support van it won't be a problem to adjust the ride plan and race viewing plan to accommodate. But, let's hope they stick with their original plan of a mountaintop finish since that would make for a true battle of the greats!

So, they decided not to go with the mountaintop finish after all. But, they are still climbing Palomar Mt. and it should play out to be an epic stage. I'm looking forward to providing people with 5 days of great fully sag supported training rides and coaching plus the fun of watching the best racers in the world battle on Palomar.
Time is running out fast to sign up for the camp! Check it out at http://www.swancoaching.com/bikecamps.htm
