I used to live in Colorado and every autumn the Aspen leaves were stunning. I loved biking, hiking, or just plain hanging out in the Rocky Mountains to soak up the sight.
Now that I live in Southern California, it's tough to find changing leaves and autumn air. But there are tons of hikes up in Julian that are great for getting your fill of the fall. After your hike, stop in one of the local spots for a slice of apple pie. mmmm.
This is the time of year I try to get out of the city as much as I can. There are a few really great fall destinations not too far away from Chicago--perfect for a day trip or a weekend getaway. I always find myself wanting to head towards South Bend, IN to catch a Notre Dame football game and take in the fall colors. But with a little more time, Wisconsin has some of the nicest parks around. I'd recommend Kettle Moraine and anywhere in Door County. Check out this photo of Door County, the "New England of the Midwest."
My next few weekends are busy, but I'm really going to try and get up there with a couple friends. If I do I'll take a bunch of photos and post them up!
That is so true! Boston is beautiful in the fall. In fact, I lived there for a single fall more than 10 years ago and every autumn, that is where I wish I could be.
