Here's One Just For Fun: What's the best/most unusual thing you've found while running?

I've been running the roads for 15+ years and during all that time, I have found some pretty cool stuff (not to mention a lot of $20 bills and a couple of $100 Master Card Gift Cards!)  I've actually started an action-figure collection because I always seem to find these crazy looking kid's toys in the road (I guess they throw them out car windows?)

Do you guys ever pick stuff up when you're running?  What's the best or most unusual thing you've ever found?

I've picked up dollar bills, Happy Meal toys, feathers, etc.  The most unusual thing I've come across was fresh bear scat (during a trail run in Vermont).  I didn't pick it up, but it certainly freaked me out!

I used to run in the mornings accompanied by my two Siberian Huskies. We always found dogs, lots of dogs that the owners had no idea were loose. Thankfully I either knew where they lived or they had tags. I've made lots of phone calls that went sort of like, "hi do you have a gosh I'm thinking whippet named Sadie? Yea, well she's in my back yard..."

Speaking of bears.  I snapped this picture in PA while out trail running.  I came around the corner and a small black bear was just hobbling down the tral in front of me.  He took off right away.  I layed the leaf in the track to kinda show the size.   Another time I actually found a geo cache.  Not looking for it, but just saw what I though was trash or something and wen tover to look and it was a parially hidden ammo can.  But it was a geo cahec with the log book inside and other items people leave.  So I signed the book and said I found it completely by accident!   However the strangest thing I have found is what appears to be the upper jaw bone with teetth still attached of what looks like a weasle or muskrat etc... large front sabre like tooth.  large for the size of the bone.  Still rather small. about the size of small childs pinky finky finger.   I have shown it to many people including a game warden in PA from area and still not for sure what it is from.

I live in western Montana so it's not so much whether you'll see wildlife, but when... In my town we have an urban herd of 500-600 unruly mule deer (which are larger and more aggressive than whitetail) so during this time of year, I can't go on an early morning run, or even out to my mailbox, without wondering, Will I be gored today or will I return unscathed?

What's an "urban herd," you ask? They don't just come down from the hills at night to raid gardens... they actually live, breed, and die right in the middle of town in people's backyards. Multiplying... like rats....

Back to the original question... Recently we went to the local track, where I found a single shoe laying in Lane 8.. Nope, it wasn't a running shoe, it was a pump!

In the winter I seem to "run" across a lot of single gloves.  Don't know how they end up on the side of the road but last year I remember at least 5 different single gloves, a work glove, mitten, isotoner, etc.    Sometimes I find clothes like shorts and shirts.  Miscellaneous broken electronic something or other.   The occasional... um....unmentionable item.    Sounds like a run through a garabage dump huh.

At one time our house was the northern most house of our subdivision development.   That lasted for about the first ten years we lived here.  Trail usually carved out by the motorcross people were in abundance and we gladly shared them.  Over the years the most abundant thing I ever found were  tools such as wrenches, hammers, pliers, snips, and bungee cords and some road kill.   Most of these were found at road crossings which were not yet paved and apparently  were tools that workmen left on their bumpers, trailers, or tool boxes which eventually fell off. As the development grew they became more scarce.  Now all I find are aluminum can and lots of plastic water bottles people just  apparently throw out of their vehicles.  One other thing that seems in abundance is cigarette packages once all cigarettes are consumed  the smokers apparently just toss the pack along with their butts  out the window.

Found an older man wondering outside barefoot and in his pajamas at 5:30am in January, it was about 25 degrees out. He was confussed  I walked him to a 24 hr gas station and they called the police. When the police came I left to finish my run, one of my better runs!
