Re: HM Trainers for the week of Nove. 16th

Hello fellow runners!

I was able to get rest on Saturday only because I missed my group power class so I decided not to try to fight my way in.  My neck was at 100% on Sunday so I decided to take a run outside.  It felt great and I had a great pace and then I find a loose dog running or should I say chasing me.  I don't know what kind of dog it was, all that I knew was that it was tall enough to reach my butt.  As I saw the dog was chasing me I immediately stop to see if he would stop.  I heard a female owner trying to call the dog back and I thought it was under control but as soon as I started running again here comes the stupid dog.  Finally a male owner call the dog back and the dog obviously listedn to the male voice more.  I think I was more ****** than scared of the dog.  I just couldn't believe that this was happening.  I haven't been chased by a dog in 25 years.  Well I am definately going to find me some pepper spray.  I don't know why it took me this long to purchase some.  Geeeeeeeeeeeeeesh!  Now I am a little unsure about my half on Saturday because as I took that immediately stop something happened with my back.  It feels like I need to stretch it constanly.  I don't know what it could be but I may have to rethink the half if I can't lose that feeling at least by Wednesday.

Chuck congrats to you on your beautiful new grandbaby.  Great job on the 27 miles!

Kim you seem pretty excited about your first half.  You will do great no worries.  Just believe in yourself.

Mass I hope you enjoyed your rest day.  I hope your knee is doing better.

Misswendy so glad you are pretty much back to normal.  full marathon still schedule.  you rock!  any time goals?

Chambers i didn't plan it but i did take a rest day on Saturday and when I woke on Sunday the crook was gone.

Run 2200 miles for the year that is great!  Wow that is a lot of running.  I am barely at 600 don't know how I could possible even fit anymore miles in anywhere.

Arby great goals, my advice would be lots of interval and hill runs.  Sound like you are on the right track.

Joe great photo, you beat that goal that is wonderful.  Thanks for sharing the race report.

Have a Magificent Monday runners!

Carmen

Re: HM Trainers for the week of Nove. 16th

hey yall

6 miles today and i felt really strong the whole time.

runjr...great total for yr. now i will have to go look up my total. hope you are feeling better soon, and good idea i'm thinkning 40 or 45 wkly after race, too.

spicegeek...hate squats, used to do a lot of them with taebo. i have been using a similar thing to roll my foot and it does help. getting much better of course the taper prob helps that. have you found your diving equip.

chamblin...great job on getting back into form. glad you felt strong at the end of the run. i am still hoping for 4hrs!

joe...great race report thanks! how exciting for you and dw! great strong finish and that is awesome. i love to pick someone ahead and pass them too! look how far youve come! rest well so your ankle heals up and you are ready to take on the next challenge.

macd...hope y ou enjoy the cold weather. i dont particularly like it myself! but its hopefully not going to be too cold here just yet....

chuck...it was warm and toasty under the covers here too! but we are still warming up quite a bit in the afternoon. hope you get up north soon! great job on the 27 miles!

and great 12 miles!

cscmartin...hope that back works out for you. my goal for the full is under 4hrs, but that is going to be a tough pace for me!

Re: HM Trainers for the week of Nove. 16th

hi all I ran in the snow with DW tonight.  We ran an easy 6 miles.

spicegeek - I may have to get fun workouts from you to add more cross training.  I should have two days a week for the gym as I don't want any couch days.  I use glucosamine! as well.

cara - good long run, you are back to normal!!!  Is the cold gone now?  I am running slower now to recover completely.  I have only one run a week being a tempo at this time.  The photos at the end look like I am out of breath.  I definitely didn't order those. I am usualy disappointed in the race day pictures as well. Berlin would be fun for a full.  While I was training I wasn't sure why I was running a full.  After the race it was so worth it.  You can do it.

joe - nice picture and great race!!!!  Hope the ankle is okay.

macd - I know I need another hobby.  lol.  This old body won't last long doing that many miles for ever. If I remember last winter and you didn't like running outside to much when it got cold?.  I think you won't miss too many days this winter.

chuck - good running keep it up!!!  Got my first tempo shoes for more speed work.  I got some Brooks Ghosts.

carmen - I got both DD and DW runners spray for that reason.  The running stores carry them, they are joggers self defense spray.  If you are unsure don't race and hurt yourself.  There are man more races.

misswendy - so happy you are feeling better and another great run.  I know your family will be happy to have you cut back to a lower mileage.  Don't get to consumed with the pace in your first full. Enjoy the race as you have plenty more to do. I think the more you enjoy it the better your time will be.

take care all.

Re: HM Trainers for the week of Nove. 16th

I'm baaaaaccccckkkkkk! Got cleared to run today and managed 3.05. Had some pain but it wasn't unbearable. PT says to cross train tomorrow and then go now more than 3 on Wednesday and then back to PT on Thursday. I did the elliptical on Friday and rode my bike on Saturday and Sunday. I can really tell that my fitness has been affected by by month of ailments starting with the stupid vertigo. My heart rate is much higher that it should be. Hopefully, I am on the upswing and can get back into a nice groove here.

Joe - I twittered this already but well done on your half. When's the next one?

Wendy - It's almost here!

Chuck - love Hollie's hair! My DS had the stick up hair doo too.

Massgirl - I am a fan of the Higdon programs. I just did my first half after completing his Intermediate Half program. I wanted to do the extra mileage and in fact fudged and ran 13.5 about a month out from my race. I used his Spring Training program as a bridge from C25K to the half program. As soon as I get my hip straightened out I am going to start one of his full programs. They have been challenging but doable for me. I have only done the freebies.

Runjr - You've got about twice as many miles as me for the year. As a newbie, I'm pretty proud of my 1,100 though.

Spicey - Good time on your race.

Mac - I'm going to run a Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving if my hip cooperates.

Cara - Sounds like you are recovered. What's your next big race?

Carmen - Beware of dogs! There is a little old lady in my neighborhood that walks two dogs that she can't control on one of those longs extendable leashes. I've had a couple up close and personal visits from them. I thought it was funny at first but it has started to piss me off a little.

Re: HM Trainers for the week of Nove. 16th

Hey everyone,

I did my first post race tempo run this morning. 4.3 miles total with 2 miles tempo in the middle. Not going to be breaking any land speed records anytime soon, but it went ok. Rest day tomorrow so looking forward to the lie in!

Joe - great job on your race! Love the picture too - you dont even look tired in it... are you sure you really ran??? Just a shame that you didn't meet any of the others running it. How are you recovering?

Macd - not sure if i'll get any more races in before Feb. I was thinking of doing a 10k in December, but not decided on that yet and my life seems to be pretty busy at the moment. Maybe a 10k in Jan if I can find anything? Good job on getting that bike ride in. I really must start doing that myself...

Chuck - great job on 27 miles! and all that without your long run??? You rock! I see you did great on your long run too... if you can do that with tummy problems then you will easily break 2 hours when you are at full health and fitness!

Spicegeek - you finished packing??? 1.5 hours of heavy kettle bells for lunch? You are mad indeed! Enjoy your holiday and try not to miss us too much

Carmen - I think we've all had the dog chasing problem one time or another. I just think that if someone has a dog that reacts that way they should have them under much more control. It is pretty scary when it happens! Hope you back is feeling better. As you say it's not worth risking making it worse but I hope you can run your HM!

Misswendy - glad your running is feeling strong! Are you starting to taper yet? You will do great, but don't go out too quick remember! I can't imagine running 40 to 45 miles a week as a maintenance plan!

Runjr - great job running in the snow. I have to admit enjoying my couch days still... although I don't often spend them on the couch I have moments where I am sure I want to run a full and moments where I know I can't do it... it's one of those things I have to do at least once - then we'll see how I feel about it after that! Was looking through my last race photo's yesterday and there are a few good ones... will see if I can post some soon.

Lorie - Great job on those classes. Glad to hear the knee is feeling better

Autumn - Walking is great cross training! Congrats on your accomplishment!

Gayle - great to see you back! Make sure you follow all that advice about getting back into it slowly and cross training where need be. You will be on that full training program before you know it! Have you picked a race to aim for?

Lunch time here so i'm off to heat up my leftover lasagna from last night! Yum!

Chat later

Cara x

Re: HM Trainers for the week of Nove. 16th

Hey gang!

Just passing through for right now, but wanted to say a quick "Hey!"

I have been "struggling" in a minor way with focus on running since my HM on 10/25/08.  Part of it, I believe, is the natural recovery process of it all.  No worries there.  The other part, for me anyway, is the lack of a true goal for which to train.  It is hard for me, right now anyway, to run just to run.  I have considered running a couple of local 5Ks, but really have little to no interest in them as the distance running bug has clearly bitten me.  I enjoy it very much.  I am thinking about the Lehigh Valley HM in May and the Philadelphia Distance Run in September with the Spinx Runfest in October again.  We shall see.

I have found though that I am in 2 pairs of shoes that I really love...  Nike Air Structures for shorter runs and New Balance 859s for longer runs.  I am a ridiculous over-pronator, so the added support, especially on longer runs, is key.  I am also a firm believer in Superfeet.  The shoes, combined with the insoles, have really gotten me to where I am today.  Still fighting a bit of right hamstring but I think that is still some lingering hammy tightness combined with the lingering hip flexor issue I had for months now.  Still, I want to get it resolved.

Ran yesterday, 49:18 worth.  No clue how far I ran, but I think I was at about a 10:30 pace.  Again, not the biggest issue.  I was happy with the run, including all of the hill work involved.

I shall return for more, later!

  • Cara - Great job on that post race tempo run!  LOL on my pic!  Well some might argue that I really didn't run!  LOL  My recovery is going well.  Not sure when I'll go for my next run, first the weather can't be cold!    LOL

  • Dan - Thanks for the update!

Good Afternoon All!  Been pretty bogged down at work so this is the first I have gotten on here since last Thurs. Ran a nice 7 on Sunday and an easy 2 this morning then did Body Flow. Tomorrow is surgery day for the little one.

Chuck- Your Granddaughter is beautiful. So much hair!!!! Great 12 miler yesterday!

Lorie- Great 5 on Sunday

Runjr- Who needs another hobby? Running is where it is! lol Great runs- and even one in the Snow! I wouldn't go outside in the snow.

Cara- Great runs! Glad you are getting back into it!

Joe- Great Race!!! Hope that ankle feels better soon.

Macd- 29 degree weather! Ahhhhh!!!!! I was cold this morning and it was only in the lower 50s!

Carmen- Sorry you got chased by that dog. Hope your back feels better. You definitely need some pepper spray or something- I wear my stungun all the time even though I run in a decent area just because you never know what crazy person or animal will jump out at you!   Of course if someone does jump out at me they better be happy it's just my stungun! lol

Wendy- Great 6 miler!

Massgirl- Great job on the workouts! Pilates is a lot harder than people think!

Autumn- Great 4.5 miles!   Gayle- Glad you are getting back into your runs! Hope that PT helps!

Goindownsouth- Glad you got 2 good pairs of shoes! I am happy just to have 1. Hope you can get a new goal to focus on and get through this struggle period.
