Most college basketball players are drilled so hard from such a young age, not only on skills but on obvious late-game strategy, that it comes naturally.

As Eamonn Brennan of The Dagger points out, "You keep an eye on the scoreboard, and for the most part, it tells you what you need to know. Losing with time running out? Probably a good idea to foul. Tied? Lock in on defense, keep your hands straight up, and never, ever foul. Especially at half-court. Ever."
