Bless her heart, Rich. Having a caring son like you has to help.

Rich and Ks, there are also added incentives for the pacers who pace correctly, i.e., bringing their group in on pace and on time.

No running for me. Planned day off.  I am a bit ahead of mileage plan for week.   Spareribs

Ribz ol chap I agree.  My buddy brought his group in 6 seconds under goal time at Houston last year.  He was closest to goal time of all the pacers.

Rich, you have reinforced your greatness.  Any other comments I might make seem so mundane.

Take care, all.  Jim, please keep us posted about your results.

Re: 50 Plus Training and Racing - December

I think it'd be fun to run with a group whose time goals are similar to yours.  It seems like you'd carry each other along and make for a more enjoyable race.  Course, you better know your fitness level too, if you've misjudged it by much, no amount of support will help.

Nice comments about my ol' mom too, thanks.  And thanks Jim and Euph...

Thursday,

Still not 100%, so another 3 miles slow today.

The guy in the picture I posted brought them in with a 2:59:43, which is pretty decent.

Tue - 6 easy on the grass

Wed - 8 easy, including 3 at marathon pace on dirt track

Euphie is up early again or still up from last night!

Jim - good luck in your marathon.  I looked at the website elevation of the race; looks like oa. downhill?   Wouldn't it be nice just to decide I'll pace a 3:00 group today; no problem?

10 miles of hills slower than normal this morning.  50 degrees but cold N. Wind and no mojo.

Re: 50 Plus Training and Racing - December

Thanks everyone. I'll need all the help I can get.

Yeah, KS, it is net downhill of 366' but I didn't find it all that easy last year. The first half never stops rollling, which can take the starch out of your legs if you're not ready for it. By comparision Boston drops 465' from start to finish and I've never heard anyone say it was easy. For sure that elevation map makes it look a lot friendlier that it is.

Forecast is for 35 degrees for 7:00 start, warming up to 40 by 10:00, with no rain or wind. Although I'm not used to it that cold it sounds like near perfect for marathoning.

Sounds like ideal conditions Jim.  Good luck.

6 slow today, but it did give me my first 25 mile week.  Spareribs

Re: 50 Plus Training and Racing - December

Finally back to working out again.  I managed a 5k TM run yesterday.  It was snowing pretty hard outdoors.  I was planning to go skiing but had to go to the mine for some information and never got back in time to ski.  So today I managed another 5k run in the morning, then 1:45 ski in the afternoon.  I will run again tomorrow and ski in the afternoon before heading back to work again.

Good luck with the race Jim.  Looking forward to reading your description.

Re: 50 Plus Training and Racing - December

Pretty similar day to yesterday.  50 minute run followed by 2 hr ski.  Run was on the TM this morning.  Ski was also in the morning.  Trails were very fast due to ice from rain last night.

Heading back out to work today.
