Re: C25K starting 1/5/09

Hey everyone.  Good job to everyone, sounds like you all are doing very well.  I did my 10k today and I am not sure on time yet as it has not posted, but the clock time was 1:55, and I was at the back so I would say it was a good ten minutes to the start then I also took a potty break that had me in line for around 10 minutes, so I am thinking I at least did it in 1:40 so I am happy with that.  Sorry I haven't been around much, my life got really busy these last two weeks, but I am still running three times a week and trying to increase speed.

Easter was fine here, hope yours was well too!  I have decided to re-do the program.  I figure if I re-do it I can work on speed.

Re: C25K starting 1/5/09

I'm still here. My running is not consistent. Some days I run 3 miles without problem. Other days I just can't seem to make it. On those days I need to take a walking break. My first 5K is coming up on Sunday so I hope that is one of my good days. When I ran yesterday I thought I would increase my speed at the end. I was just guessing as to how to do it, so I increased to 6.0 @ 2.5 miles. I was overconfident. I could only go to 2.75 miles. Next time I will try to go faster for the last quarter mile instead.

Keep running,

Karen

Re: C25K starting 1/5/09

I've been running about 3 days a week. I got hit with a stomach bug last week and a minor cold the week before but I think I only missed one run. I changed directions on Saturday and ran a pretty good hill. My fastest time is just over 31 minutes (my trainer wasn't set quite right to track the actual runt hat day!). I did the hill in 32:11. I'm happy with my consistancy. I hope I can break 30 minutes eventually!!

I'm loving my Garmin 305. It's a real morale booster to plug that thing in after a run and see how I did!

Re: C25K starting 1/5/09

Is anyone still there? The board has really slowed down. I ran my first 5k yesterday. It was cold (48 degrees) and rain was forecast but it held off until after the race. I was freezing while waiting to start, but found the temperature great for running. I was not prepared for the difference of running on a treadmill and running outside. While the course was mostly flat, the slight rises and curves and slants in the surface really caught me off guard. Wind was also an issue for me. My time was 35 min. but I still came in second in my age group. All in all, I'm satisfied with this as a first effort. My next 5k is on May 9. I will really have to up my game because the next one is pretty big and attended by many experienced runners.

Keep in touch,

Karen

Re: C25K starting 1/5/09

karen,

that's so great for your 5k.  Actually that's my favorite temp to run in.  I don't have a treadmill so I have to run outside and as long as I'm running it's perfect.  I was encouraged by one of the posters on here to try it at below 40 degrees which I did and it too was a good run as long as I was moving.  With the couch to 5k plan it was cold during the walks!  I've had to stop running for a while because of my calf muscle issues and It actually makes me a little nervous thinking about running in temperatures above 70!!

Keep up the great work!

Re: C25K starting 1/5/09

Hey guys! It has been way too quiet on this board! I am still running, if you can call it that. Spring is always really windy here, and going into the wind you can almost time me with a sundial. But my next 5K is also May 9. I do feel like I'm getting in better shape all the time. Until I was running outside I never knew how hilly my little town was!

It's good to hear that you guys are still out there too.

Re: C25K starting 1/5/09

Hey all- I ran my first 5K race Saturday. I didn't do too bad; my time was 32:27. I'm not sure how I placed; the race results haven't been posted yet. I certainly didn't win but I'm not too worried. It was fun to be cheered on. It was pretty cold, windy and rainy and there was a heckuva head wind on the return. My time as about a minute slower than my regular run time but I'm not disappointed. There's another race this Saturday I might do. I plan to run that day anyways. Might as well support a cause and get a t-shirt!!

Re: C25K starting 1/5/09

Hey crew,

I did my longest training run today, almost 4 miles. (Miscalculated, then got too close to home to go around the block. Once the dogs see me I have to come home!) Anyway, I didn't have to slow down and walk at all. That's really good for me, because sometimes even on 2 mile runs I have to walk a little bit. Only one of my miles was 11 minutes, the rest were in the mid to upper 10s. I'll never be winning a race, but at least I can participate!

Keep on running!

Re: C25K starting 1/5/09

I had an AWESOME run today. First, I think I got my pre-run meal figured out. I had a small bowl of Frosted Mini wheats with almond milk. Regular milk makes me mucus-y. This combo gave me tons of energy. I tried a new route that takes me near a lake, campground and hiking trail. The area is known to be the territory of a lone wolf that the locals named Romeo. I got to my turning point which was a looping parking lot with a small hill in the middle of the loop. I was making great time and was all focused then I caught movement out of the corner of my eye. And there was Romeo! He was right on top of that hill not 50 feet away. I slowed to a walk and made my way around the loop. He made one quick playful hop at me, watched me a moment then ran across the parking lot to a higher vantage point. It was about 7 AM and I was the only person around. What a thrill!! I booked it  home all excited to tell my kids. My total run was 31:34 which include about 1:15 of very slow walking past the wolf. It was definately one of my fastest paced runs overall.

Re: C25K starting 1/5/09

jnuak--that is quite some story. You live in a really interesting place. I wouldn't have been so calm to be in the presence of a wolf, even one as beautiful as Romeo. Although, it might be great incentive to run home really fast.

On Monday I improved my time over my Sunday 5K run time. My race pace was 11/mile. On Monday I ran 10/mile. I ran two days in a row because I wanted to get back on my running schedule, but I was really feeling it yesterday. That was a good reminder for me that the resting day/s are important. Today is my running day again along with my Yolates class. My goal is to improve my time again.

I am attempting to post a couple pictures from my 5K. In one, I am approaching the finish line. In the other, I have received my medal. Hope this works.

Re: C25K starting 1/5/09

Karen- Romeo has proven over and over he's a friendly wolf. People take their dogs out to play with him (though I think this is foolish. One little dog disappeared.) It's the bears I worry about. They're waking up now and are frequently in our neighborhood.

Good for you on the race and keeping up your schedule and meeting new goals. Great pictures!!
