It is considered cheating to stop during runs?

I just recently got to the point of running longer distances as I train for the tripple crown.  I usually run about 4 miles when I train (that is where I am on my training schedule).  However, I find myself needing to stop and walk for about 1 minutes about every two miles.  I get very hot and sweat alot and it helps me cool down for a minute.  I hope to build up so I can run even longer distances for the tripple crown, but am worried that it is not good that I have to stop like that.  Is this normal and should I be able to run 4 or more miles without having to stop?  Any comments or suggestions?

Thanks!

What you're seeing could be a sign that you're going too fast.. You may want to slow down a little to see if that helps you do the whole run without the break. Eventually, though, you will find yourself able to run it without stopping. Taking short walking breaks is a common tactic when increasing distance. The Couch to 5K plan is based on it. Something else that may help is to carry a water bottle and take a sip every half-mile to help you stay cool and hydrated.

We've come this far and it's still the same,
Runnin' out here in the rain.
Just one more mile, if only you could fly.
(Apologies to T. Rush and J. Tempchin, for the paraphrase)

NO-  Look up the Galloway method of running.   I am not a fast runner 10-10:30 minute miles.   However- I started using the Galloway method of running last year.   You run 5-9 minutes then walk a minute.   A brisk walk but keep moving.  Keeps the legs fresh.   I decreased my time on the mini by 15 minutes over the year before.   I felt fresh and ready to go at the end.   Whe npeople ask you if you ran the whole way I always tell them I just keep moving!   If they didn't run I ask them did they get off the couch that day!

Be proud just to finish.    Keep training walking/running and you will see your times and distances improve.
