I was distracted by the video on what to do if a certain body part is caught in a zipper. Turns out the Navy developed a procedure for resolving this problem. I learned something new today. Way to go Navy!

When my brother was in HS he ran track and was at the County championships. He was running the 100 meters and dropped at the 50. He hobbled off and swore he broke his hip. He did.... the doc said he was running so hard that his quad contracted so hard that it pulled the bone out where the tendon connected his quad to his hip. Ouch.

    Holly,

I was a jumper when I ran track and I don't think anything trashes your shins faster than jumping.  Like Craig said, a few days' rest should do wonders.  Problem with track was, we never wanted to take time off - there was always another meet to get ready for.   I can remember practices and meets where I'd do my jump, get out of the pit, and then go down to the ground cringing in pain for the next couple minutes.  Ten minutes later I'd be jumping again.

Fortunately I don't think that ever did any permanent damage to my legs, which I would hope means that you're not in any danger of doing serious harm.

Definitely ice with the dixie cups!  That will have your shins feeling better very quickly.  Even when you get back to running, icing before and after your run would help (or just after if you're lazy like me!)

Oh, and old shoes are a likely culprit!  They'll get me every time!

    Good luck!

To the world you may be one person, but to one person you may be the world.  (from my ice tea lid)

Yeah, except for the fact that they can develop into stress fx if you don't treat them. You don't want to be like me, and you REALLY don't want to be like C. Take a rest or two, scale back the speed. Speedwork on a shaky foundation is likely what caused me to go boink. I hadn't run enough in the previous months to justify the speed workouts I was doing. Owie. We know how that story goes.

And yes, you have also just justified a shoe-shopping trip. Congratulations!

    Holly,

RW this month did a spot on Kinesio taping.  I am trying it for my achillies.  I figure it is worth a shot for faster recovery.  Here is a link to the RW site.

Who ever thought Duct tape would have medicinal value?  Other than covering a sucking chest wound of course.

The crowd goes silent, waiting to see whether FireCat will teeter over the edge into the gutter at the mention of "sucking" and "chest" in the same sentence.
