Ironman Training

Hi, I've just entered the Western Australian I.M for the 5th December so I've given myself plenty of prep. time. With this amount of time, can anyone give me advice/information on periodization or break-down of training over the course of this time?

I completed the U.K I.M(my first) in Sept. in 12hrs(Age Cat: 45-49). My training became quite adhoc without any real purpose except try and increase mileage as the race drew near. The W.A I.M is much flatter and faster(apparently)so with an intelligent training program, I'm hoping for a sub 11hrs finish this time.

Appreciate any advice/info on this.

Many thanks,

Darren, Byron Bay, Australia.

    Re: Ironman Training

any thoughts about getting a coach? don't there are too many generic training plans out there for a sub 11. but you might check trifuel.com or beginnertriathlete.com

what do you think was the biggest limiter in your last race?

BTW congrats on your first and doing a wicked fast time

    goals for 2011:

    break 19minutes for 5k

break 2:42 for olympic triathlon probably Anthracite olympic

break 3:16 for marathon ( a long shot but it's fun putting yourself out there)
