My First Thistle Regatta

On Sunday, July 8th, I participated in the Thistle Racing Academy "Learning to be a race crew" at the Mission Bay Yaught Club (MBYC).
I had such a great time. Mike Poltorak led the clinic for about 14 of us new crew. We watched a Thistle Sailing video, demonstrations of rigging, tacking and setting and gybing the spinnaker. Then, we participated in a hands-on demonstration of the crew work and boat handling. Then, Mike assigned us to boats and we went out on the water. We practiced for about 30 minutes. Then, we began the MBYC races. There were three short races. It was great, I was able to participate in my first Regatta! Hopefully I will be able to do another one sometime soon.
Thank you Mission Bay Yaught Club for letting me participate in your Thistle Racing Academy!
Nice work - it's always great to get out on the water!
Did you think it was a good workout? How did you choose MBYC?
Yeah, I did think it was a great workout. I was really sore the following day. My stomach wasn't used to being flexed so much.
About why I chose MBYC...they actually found me. My contact information was on the San Diego Yacht Club Crew website. MBYC found my contact information on there. Then, they asked me if I wanted to participate with their club.
Are you a member of a sailing club?
That's really cool. Did you have a lot of sailing experience before you did it?
