Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers April19th

Hi all:  was supposed to run 3-4 miles this morning but it's rainy and icky out.  So I decided that my foot needed an extra day of rest and am staying inside!  Now that I'm back up north, I can relate to you folks who've been wimping out of running in the foul elements!!  I am a wimp!

I've done some additional research on the pain in my foot (what did we do before Al Gore invented the internet???) -- and I'm starting to think that the custom orthotics may be the way to go.  Several sites recommend orthotics for this type of pain, so at least I have some validation (of course, it's validation of a self-diagnosis!

Happy running,

Sue

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers April19th

wow, quite thread.  hi all, I am not running outside.  37 degrees wind rain/snow mix.   In the northern part of Wisconsin they got 12 " of snow.  I will run a bit on the TM and ride the stationary bike.

lorie - 11 days to go!!  Exiting that your race day is near.

misswendy - you sure are racking up the miles. Way to run. How is ds doing with all those miles?

sue - maybe a wimp, but a smart one. lol. I am staying inside as well.

carmen - nice run.  Was it outside?

joe - nice workout and run.  NFL draft this weekend.  Cowboys will make the news for something.

runth#s - nice run outside.  The weather here is awful.  I hope it misses you.  lol on the whisper.

chuck - how is the calf?  How is your ds doing?

take care.

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers April19th

I`m a little behind here ! Did a solid hour or so kettlebells and random weights yesterday - including making myself do the dreaded box jumps ! - and an easy 4 miles today - ran the last 1/2 mile at fast pace just to remind my legs how to turn over fast !! .... yeah I`m tapering .. can`t you tell .. LOL

meg outdoor workouts are so much fun ! you feel like you have so much space and air - it`s very energizing ! I`m hoping to get another outdoor session in on Thursday !

Joe Welcome back - we just about managed to get the thread going without you !

Carmen you`ll love training with kettle bells - they are SO much fun !

Runthe#s I find the lap pace better than speed - I tend to think in terms of pace rather than speed

Sue - the bells from Dicks look fine - I don`t think you have any need to switch them - if the handles start to get rough just sand them down and spray paint them again. It`s only the 16KG bell I feel better with the smaller handle - and then only if I`m doing snatches or one handed swings - my left hand grip is a bit weird due to an accident 10 years ago and I don`t feel as secure holding the fatter handles !

runjr  We have to volunteer at one race to get our marathon entry in NY - but it`s the least we can do ! .. you still have snow ?? ... jeez ...

Lorie hope your cold is getting better !! I know how you feel about that creeping marathon thought !! I can`t believe I`m doing this either ! I just read a book about the NYC Marathon and I found it very emotional - I`m enjoying the way to feel to think I can do this - I`m embracing the changes I have made in my life !

Hey gang!  Did 4 miles yesterday after work.  Rest day today.

  • Runjr - Wow, still snowing up there?  It was in the mid-80's yesterday when I ran!  Yes, we'll see how the draft goes this weekend.

  • Spicegeek - Well here is your chance to get caught up!  LOL too on getting the thread started w/o me!  Enjoy the rest of your taper week.

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers April19th

Good Morning All:

Another good early morning run of 6 miles in 52 minutes.  Puts me over 30 this week so far.  I'm putting the miles in for another purpose, in addition to the fun of running.  My work has joined a wellness program sponsored by Sir Richard Branson's Virgin Group of companies that uses a pedometer to rack up "health" miles which in turn equates to cash for participants.  They are currently having a contest this week to take a marathon worth of steps before Friday, roughly 52,400 steps.  If you do you get an additional 250 "health" miles in your account.  So I had to do it.  (my competitive nature, I guess) Made my 52,400 steps with this morning's run, woohoo!

Now back to putting the hours in @ the gym for their competition!!!

Happy hump day, everyone!

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers April19th

Hey all, sorry for not being around much... we are moving at work this week and it has been crazy. I have not run in 2 1/2 weeks now because of the hip, but am going to try it tomorrow no matter how it feels, since at this point it neither feels better nor worse. We shall see.

I don't have much time for shout outs, but wanted to say Congrats to runjr & family - fabulous race! You are all so fast! I'm glad you had nice weather for the race.

Okay, Boston... awesome to be there, even as a spectator. But I confess I was watching for DD and her friend, and my sis and I had timed where we were watching to catch them, not the elite runners. We saw them at the 7 mi mark, they were running ~8:23 and looked good. We were hoping to see them at Heartbreak Hill, but by the time we'd ditched the car and hopped on the T, we were afraid to go out that far for fear of missing them, so we settled for about the 24 mi mark. By then DD's friend had gone ahead, and DD was about 15 min. behind. After seeing both of them, we took off for the finish line, but didn't get there until DD had already finished. The weather, as I'm sure you know, was decent, but they ran into a good headwind the whole way. DD had hoped to run about 8:15, but she finished with an overall pace of 9:00. I don't think she was too surprised. Her schedule is so hectic that her sleeping and eating habits haven't been too good lately. I think she's going to take a break from marathons for a while. I'll try to add a pic but don't know if this will work:

If it comes out, DD is in the yellow (official shirt).

She did say one thing was really neat - as they approached Wellesley College, the girls were screaming so loudly that they could hear a roar from about a half mile away. How cool is that?!

Thanks for all the well wishes, all. We had a great time.

Happy running!
